Hi there folks!Yes, the title can be changed to what makes YOU laugh? You know, the belly laughs in life, the ones that will make you giggle for days afterward?
I am a bit of a ‘banana-skin’ person I’m afraid.I love slapstick, pantomime, and short very funny jokes, and everyday life humour. All this has been brought on by the death of the 2nd of the 2 funniest men ever.Ronnie Corbett. His partner,Ronnie Barker died 11 years ago.I am not sure that any of our friends in the USA have ever heard of them. They specialised in a very British humour which was based on everyday life and all the pickles we humans get into.It was very clever because of their delivery.Absolutely deadpan and simple. They could carry on for ages with the most ludicrous stuff coming out of their mouths,as though it was absolutely serious. Many is the time when my late Husband and I were laughing so much we were pleading for mercy and crying helplessly!Several times I missed the punchline even,as I couldn’t stop laughing for long enough! So much of our humour nowadays is based on lavatories, sex, politics or race, and I just don’t get it.Might be age, though I doubt it.I could never get the ‘tits and bums’ of Benny Hill for instance, yet the 2 males in my house were loving it!So my question:what makes YOU laugh?I’ll bet it is different from me!I find Billy Connelly funny, and he is a bit off sometimes, however, he is also very much a comedian who can laugh at himself. And I LOVE people who poke fun at themselves! Most endearing! So rest in peace, the 2 Ronnies, you gave so many of us ,so much pleasure! And with the world in such a mess as it is at the moment,we need to laugh more and more!
Yes I know it is over a month since I last wrote here.Thats pretty typical of me..I was visiting Polz yesterday and she gave me a nudge.......So here be it!
I went to the wedding and had a really wonderful time.It was a very typical BIG family wedding and yet it was so simple.A very easy ceremony in a lovely park which was really good as it was the hottest time of the year and there was alovely breeze ooutside.Penny and I had a huge reception from all the cuzzies and in-laws and nieces and nephews and it really didn’t stop the whole time!I was laughing my head off for most of the reception as this is a family I have been very much a part of for most of my 72 years, having married into it and known the Mum and Dad since I was a little nipper!AND they had 11 children.
I was exhausted by about 10pm and sweating so I looked like a right mess and could barely shower and drag myself to bed when we got home to my sister-in-law Joans place! So very worth it in every way as I felt I had caught up with this huge tribe!

Apart from that,we have done Toastmasters and I gave a speech about being in a hurricane in Fiji in 1958 after my Dad died. This was soon after the dreadful cyclone/hurricane that hit Fiji.It hit fair and square where we had lived then and where my Dad is buried!Has created havoc and almost destroyed the settlement of Levuka.Strangely,I have been a church friend of a lovely Fijian woman called Serafina who was at school in Levuka at the Convent School when I was at my Dad’s
school there. We both find it really funny ‘cos we never met there. She has given huge amounts of time and energy getting relief aid over there and we have all generously donated. She is over on the Island,(Levuka is on an Island in Fiji called Ovalau, much the same size as ours here) at present, helping her family. It is very big recovery effort.
The family are all well here and flourishing.Kids are back at school and pretty much enjoying it!We all had an amazing experience here a week ago. There was a bit of a storm, lot of wind and quite a bit of rain and in the middle of the night,I was sound asleep ,there was an enormous BANG! followed by about 3 or 4 smaller ones!I leapt out of sleep and bed in complete shock!I was expecting a car crash.and rushed out the door and.....nothing but darkness!First clue:complete darkness. No street lights
and no lights next door.Tested mine.No power at all!Hmmm.Next morning I found out a big electricity transformer box had blown up over the road and boy did Penny have a tale to tell. She does online work and had just turned off her computer when the explosion happened and all her lights, even those turned off, flashed and buzzed and she could see sparks roaring down her powerlines and the box throwing sparks all over the road.into our paddocks! The grandies were terrified!Next day,no power for hours and no iinternet for days.Pennys vehicle had a flat battery and the big street lamp outside our place still needs fixing.
The weather is brewing for another storm and is going to get colder.I mourn the passing of summer as I love the warmth.Me old bones hate cold!!!
And with that,I will finish for now. Will try to remember to note!!
Best love to you all
Be kind to each other,
Majimazexxxxxxx

The wedding sounds wonderful. The storm sounds horrible. Glad you are all safe.

I agree about a lot of the humor today. I do not find many of the topics, nor the language humorous at all.

The Public Broadcasting System (runs on donations) in Dallas, Texas showed "The Two Ronnies" for many years. I always enjoyed it. I tend to be a bit of an anglophile when it comes to comedy -- and a good many other things. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I didn't know that the last Ronnie had died. I must be getting old - so many of the people I used to watch on TV or the movies are now dead or nearly dead. Funny kind of feeling to think of it. I used to watch the 2 Ronnies when I lived in Cobham, Surrey. I liked their show but must admit that my Canadian bred sense of humour didn't always "get it". One evening about 10 years ago Billy Connolly was in the small whisky bar of the Athenaeum Hotel where I was staying. There were only a few people there - about 8, and he spouted a sort of running monologue for the entire evening. He was feeling no pain, and was quite funny.

You are quite right. More pure clean humor would be welcomed. What a wonderful large and fun loving family. :-)
