I had just finished moving our horses over to a different pen this morning when DH and I heard, off in the distance, a very strange noise. We thought at first it was coyotes yipping (and my horse was extremely unnerved by the sound, as well) but it was getting way too close and I could tell the sound was UP, so I looked into the sunrise and saw a “V” formation going overhead.
I assumed it was Canada Geese, but I was THRILLED to realize as they went directly over us that it was a flock of tundra swans! That’s a first for me - we’ve been out here on the hobby farm going on 8 years now and never seen them before. They were just beautiful and I feel extremely blessed. After doing some research with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, I’m assuming they’re on a migration back to the tundra for the summer and stopped over in the fields near here for some of last year’s corn. Lovely. :)
