A race known as the Heechee left behind an artificial spaceport full of spacecraft before they vanished. When this is discovered by the human race, the idea of going off exploring for treasure in the far reaches of the galaxy (and getting paid handsomely for any discoveries made) is a tempting one for those living on resource starved Earth. The problem is the HeeChee didn’t leave instruction manuals behind for their abandoned equipment....the dangers are very real. Not everyone who flies out will survive the trip.

This book reminded me a bit of Rendezvous With Rama by Arthur C. Clarke…unseen aliens, unknown technology. It’s also part of a series, which I’m glad to hear. Because I really didn’t want to finish the 279 page (including afterword by Alastair Reynolds) book. This is the second book I’ve read from Pohl (the first being Jem), and the second time that I’ve not been disappointed.

Books Read: 4/52. Total Pages Read This Year So Far: 1269
