Interviews in 2016: The Year of New Beginnings

In November, I applied to 12 PhD programs all over the US. So far, I’ve heard back from 3 … all invited me to interview! This is crazy and awsome. It’s 1:42 a.m., and I so should be in bed … but hello, South Carolina, Virginia, and New York invited me, and oh my goodness, that is so, so cool. How did I get here?
New York said in the email: “We were so pleased to receive so many amazing applications. We selected only the highest ranked applicants for the interview phase of Admissions - you should be very proud of your research accomplishments and academic preparation.”
Amen, New York.
How did I get here when just last year in May I quit my job. And ever since, so much has happened. I aced the GREs. I got serious lab experience. I conducted my own study. I wrote a paper for publication. Our poster just got accepted for a conference. I lectured a class! I learned statistics! And I got three awesome recommendation letters from people with PhDs.
Crazy.
I don’t know what I thought. Maybe that nobody would call me for an interview because I just started. That’s what I thought. But they did. And it’s amazing. Clinical psych is the most competitive, more than law school and medical school, if you can imagine. And here they are, calling me. I love it!!! And why shouldn’t they? They should! I’ve done well. And I can do well. Nevermind my fears and yada yada. What an amazing turn. I can’t wait for what’s next. Even if nothing happens. Even if I get rejected from everywhere. Because I’ll apply again. And do it just as awesome next time. Because I can. Because I’m meant to.
Happy new year!
love,
Nat
