So, silly season is over for another year. I hope the big guy in the red costume bought everything that people wished/wanted/needed for Christmas. I was pleasantly pleased to receive not a lot this year. My family love Christmas and usually go over board, but this year we insisted that they rein their spending in. And, apart from the grand-sprogs, so it ensued. I wasn’t bereft of pressies. (See how I’m using new words now I’m a writer? LMAO). I received a new Gerber multi-tool for my belt. My other one is still functional, but this new one has some added bits. I went for Gerber again as the last one is over 25 years old and still going strong! I have used it a lot for all sorts of tasks and it is a testament to the quality of manufacturer of this piece of kit that led me to want the same make again. I also got a couple of DVD/book combos on Classic Bikes and the Spitfire WWII plane, as well as some Triumph clothes (T-shirt and Hoody). So I didn’t do too bad.

So now Xmas has come and gone and we look towards 2016 I suppose the shops will be full of Valentines Cards and Easter Eggs. Not that I believe we live in a consumer-led society or anything.

Life, and death, goes on. Today the passing of two “celebrities” have been reported over here. Pavel Srnicek was a footballer who played for a few teams over in the UK. He left to go back to his homeland and was a goalkeeping coach at a big team. Still kept himself fit, was out jogging one morning before Christmas and didn’t make it home. He had a massive heart attack. They managed to revive him, and kept him in an induced coma, but a scan yesterday showed that his brain had been starved of oxygen for too long and he was officially “brain-dead” so it was down to his family to make the decision to switch his life support machine off, which they did today. He was 47.
The other one was probably more famous around the world and many of you may have heard of Lemmy from Motorhead. A renowned figure in the pop/rock world for his gravelly voice and loud music. Many may not know that he was also the lead singer on Hawkwind’s “Silver Machine”. He died today at the age of 70. He’d had several bouts of illness this year, but was finally diagnosed with cancer on Boxing Day. It was in his brain and neck, an extremely aggressive cancer that took him two days later. Lemmy was known for his hard drinking, cigarette smoking and indeed substance misuse, but everyone still expected him to go on and on. It’s reported that he recently switched from his beloved Jack Daniels to drinking Vodka and orange, because it seemed more healthy to include fruit!
Tributes have come in from several greats in the rock world – Alice Cooper, Brian May, Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, and many more.

Now shocking as these deaths are, how many others will go without being reported? Lives lost in Southern US due to tornadoes, in Northern England due to flooding, death happens all around us, all of the time. But we still keep on keeping on as if nothing has happened because it hasn’t happened to us. But that’s not to say we don’t feel sympathy/empathy for these people that have lost friends or loved ones. I guess my mentality is yes it is very sad that people have died for whatever reason, but it gives me even more impetus to live MY life to the fullest I can before it’s my turn.

Sorry if this is a depressing entry for probably the last of 2015 for me, I’m just feeling a bit morose today and thinking of my Mum and Dad a lot. I shall bounce back next year as I always do!

So here’s wishing you all a wonderful 2016 and I hope it brings us all new adventures, new beginnings and lots of fun with it.
Stay Safe, peeps.
