aspire
aspire to something
my father before me
and my
grandfathers before him
men of strength
who knew
sometimes strength
meant
a relaxed grip
but where does that
leave us
[what do i want to be
when i grow up]

your time to
spread your wings and
fly is nigh
but will you
hear
will you be
ready

i feel them
marching in the
distance
soldiers of the
land
bare feet and hand
in hand
[won’t you stand
with me side by side]

please come
find your way back

aspire
aspire to touch the
earth
and sky
won’t you open your
mind and
close your eyes
[falling]

aspire
aspire to
something
to
something
more than
nothing
to
something more
than
propping up the
status quo
[torch in hand
burn it down]

raise your hands
to the sky
gather it in your
fingertips
it’s not in your
hand
but in your hand
and yours
and
yours
your brother’s
hand
and his
brother

walk along
walk alone
convince another to
come along
[stronger together]

don’t you know
the final scene
is a
blank page

pen in
hand, you know the
words
