on a thursday... in here

it’s been a long week and we’re not even at friday yet.

so my mind has been made up. i had basically made up my mind, but shit it if wasn’t clarified for me.

basically i had alluded to a somewhat sure thing (yes, i know) and an intriguing possibility a few entries ago. definitely work related and definitely settled.

the possible sure thing is an admin. position flying within my unit. from what i can tell it’d basically be doing the same thing i am now with a new title and a pay raise. the specific title may be somewhat different, but i think that’s just an hr thing. however, i want to get back into instruction. plus, cutting about 1.5 hrs off my commute everyday wouldn’t help either.

which leads to the intriguing possibility. i wrote about how i was approached about an admin job i believe. this was by the head of special education (SPED) for the area where i live. it’s why my friend is doing and the hq is 15 minutes from my house. granted, i would be all over the area, but still. also, i would still have to go through the process, interview and all, but i am reasonably certain it is mine to fuck up.

so i was there on a “field trip” tuesday talking with my friend about how he we were doing projections for our programs for next year. we went over some data and used some excel fun to narrow down stuff they’d have to work out by hand. only problem is that he made a few mistakes. we found this out when we were doing some analysis at 5 (the time we normally get out of work). apparently he promised this to the staff he works with by the next day. he wanted to correct each data set individually, but well, we’re talking about millions of dollars here and it would be his head out there is the data was incorrect. so i didn’t want him screwed like that, so i stayed with him and redid it while he did other work he had let slide. we ended up getting out of there about 7pm. when we went to leave, the gate for the cars was locked so we had to find the janitor to unlock the gates. i guess that’s one way to get your steps in.

yesteday was pretty regular until the afternoon. apparently there was a meeting with the heads of SPED for various things and i was told there was only going to be one person there and we were going to go over the google form and such i had created. however, i ended up being a glorified vanna white, bringing up different shit on the projector. my boss talked in circles and everyone seemed to be more confused than when they walked in. the purpose was to actually tell them how to hire people and get it through fiscal and hr and the such. i sat there in the front with my WTF face. probably much less professional than i should have been, but WTF! had i been him, there would have been a flow chart of some type of really planning on his part.

today was interesting. met with a contractor about a data visualization project. they’re already contracted with our adult ed group. apparently the initial design cost was about 300k and the annual subscription fee is about 60k. we sure as fuck don’t have that kind of money laying around. gotta talk with people to see exactly what they want.

then went to a meeting with a large group of assistant principals. my possible future boss (MFB) was there and i presented on communication between staff regarding specific procedures. there were a lot of confused faces and pushback, but oh well. when i asked MFB how i did, she said “well” and said that she kept looking around wondering when i would be working for her.

which leads to a brand new and important reason i’m not applying for the somewhat sure thing. one of the bigwigs in our office, is taking a job somewhere else. now, he basically built this group handles a good majority of the data and special projects across groups. people seem to see me as the heir apparent, but i don’t want to. the reason he cited for leaving (which i know is only partly true) is to get back into instruction…the same thing i have said.

to me, this basically leaves that group up shit creek without a paddle. i’m not knowledgeable, nor do i want to, jump in a tie that shit to the side of the river.
