Well, I'm back from South Carolina.
I did NOT meet my father. I'm actually kind of relieved. Talk about how awkward that would have been.
I DID meet my "other brother". We kept the conversation light. He seemed nice enough, but I don't think I'll ever be as close to him as I am to Don.
The brother I went to visit (Don) managed to get into a motorcycle accident (on his way to take a test for a college course) on my first night there. He broke his wrist and totaled the bike, but is otherwise fine. I could KILL the driver of the car. He wasn't paying attention and "didn't see" my brother. I'm sorry, he's got a LOUD bike, was wearing a helmet that had flashing lights on it (lovingly referred to as his dork helmet) AND he was wearing a bright orange vest. OPEN YOUR EYES.
Thanksgiving dinner was at my SIL's parent's house. It was lovely. The way I like a Thanksgiving dinner to be. Too many family members who love each other shoved into a house. :) And after we left, my SIL's dad told her "Well I don't have any illegitimate children but if I did, I'd want them to be like her." Yes, it's a back handed compliment full of knuckles, but it's the deep south. I'll take it at face value. I made a good impression and that's often hard for me to do. I tend to open my mouth and insert my foot.
