And another working week bites the dust! Yippee!
I actually did some proper work today. Had that one appointment, which did only take 15 minutes, and I was home again by 11.00! But there were some e-mails waiting for me which meant I had some admin to do as well.
Of course, it hasn’t taken me all afternoon. LOL
A comment from a regular reader has led me to believe that I haven’t mentioned my trip to Germany before.
This is for a RAF Reunion, near the camp we were stationed at, Laarbruch. I was there between 1978 and 1981 on 16 Squadron, which flew Buccaneers. It was one of the best and most memorable times of my single life. I loved it out there, as did a lot of my fellow airmen. This will be the 3rd time we have been out there for a reunion , as well as having 2 or 3 in the UK. Unfortunately, this will also be the last one due to all our contacts moving away. We used to arrange a tour around the old station to bring back memories, but it has been turned into a civilian airport and is becoming more restricted now. And the establishment we used to frequent, “Kev’s Pub”, was run by an Englishman who had left the RAF while in Germany, married a German fraulein and stayed out there to run the pub. But he is retiring this year so there goes our “headquarters”!
So I am sure we’re going to make this one of the best reunions we’ve ever had.
I am catching the ferry on the evening of 10th September, and landing at Rotterdam 12 hours later. From there to where we need to be is about 1 1/2 hours, so not too bad. Of course, I am going on my bike. Everyone knew me as one of THE bikers when I was there. I hadn’t passed my car test at the time so the bike was all I had. It was there that I had my first Harley, a 1000cc Sportster ‘Hugger’. This was in the days when AMF owned H-D and quality control was negligible! I could very easily have been put off the marque if I’d let all the problems I had with that Sporty get to me. It was a total bag of S**t. But when it did run properly it was good fun.
I catch the ferry back on sunday night, arrive monday morning and , again, it’s only 1 1/2 hours back to home. But I’ve also taken the tuesday off to recover! Then it’s just 3 days work before we go to Cornwall for 10 days. We’re going down mainly to look after my daughters’ Pug. She goes to Ibiza on the wednesday until the sunday, so for 5 days we’ll have 4 dogs! We must be mad!! But it will give us chance to have a look around at places to live down there.
OK, that’s all for this issue.
Stay Safe, peeps
