Why do you fight? in The irresistible urge to rant, riff and ramble

I’ve occasionally been asked: why do you waste time fighting people who are clearly just out to cause trouble?

Usually I get some platitude about how the lion is unconcerned with the opinion of the sheep.

You’re not thinking big enough, lads.

I’m not arguing with sheep.

I am swatting down a fly.

(yeah, I get that look a lot too.)
