There is a crushing and terrible loneliness in knowing, rightly or wrongly, that there ain’t no thing like you, except you.
(This is in fact quite a common malady of youth.)
Fortunately, few of us are as special as we think we are– there are only so many parts in the build-a-human kit, and a large part of growing up is figuring out what the various parts do.
The nice thing about coming to understand yourself, perhaps, is the realisation that everyone else out there is actually just as clueless as you are, just as lonely as you are, and once you take away all the things that exist on the surface, different from you only quantitatively.
Although, given the screaming resistance of a lot of people to any attempt to reach that goal, it is perhaps not always what these people want to hear.

Connections are reassuring, although as a teen I'm not entirely certain I would have trusted them.
