Fundamental in Day to Day

This weekend I have been working at the allotment, weeding and digging. I ache a bit now. I am hoping we get some cherries on our cherry tree. The raspberries look good, as do the blackcurrants, and I have harvested a large amount of rhubarb already. In fact, last night I made rhubarb curd, and it’s really quite nice. I want to build a new shed, but I can’t get anyone to deliver the bits on a specific day. I can’t be the only person who works during the day and needs to plan ahead can I? I’m going to talk to someone in the store and see if they can help.

It was nudie night at the local swimming pool on Saturday. I’m so lucky to live so near. I swam 10 lengths, and I am a crap swimmer, so that’s a lot for me. You know what I like most about nudie night? I’ll tell you! I like going to the pool to pick the boy up from his swimming lesson on Friday and thinking, “I was swimming naked in that very water a couple of days ago.

The boy has a new school teacher this term. He seems to like her and he’s trying really hard. He tells me that if he gets full marks in his spelling test three weeks in a row he gets in the ten-out-of-ten club. He’s desperate to do it. Today is the second spelling test of the term and he got full marks last week. I think he’ll be OK, but he has a bit of a blind spot with “curiously” and “secretively”. UPDATE - he got 18/18

The recent earthquake tragedy in Nepal now appears responsible for thousands of deaths. As usual we didn’t have to wait long for some scummy, self-righteous piece of sewage to inform us all that it was all god’s way of punishing those unchristian people of the region. According to Pastor Tony Miano, they should all repent, convert to christianity, and leave their “pagan” temples in ruins. I’m not sure where he gets the idea that they are pagan, since the country is 85% Hindu, but there you go. Not only is he’s a disgusting human being with an apparently very low level of intelligence, he’s also ill-informed.

All this makes me wonder, is it fundamentalism that spawns disgusting people like Tony Miano and Shirley Phelps-Roper (Westborough Baptist Church), or is the problem with the individual religion itself. I’ve come to the conclusion that religion is the cause. A fundamentalist Jainist for instance would not be a disgusting person, since not harming anything is a fundamental teaching of Jainism. A fundamentalist Jainist would be a harmless nutter of course. The other possibility is that religion and fundamentalism are both irrelevant and Miano and Phelps-Roper are simply independently disgusting people.

I have discovered that one can earn £65 for writing an opinion article in Health and Efficiency magazine. I’m going to give it a go.
