…except that i don’t get here that often

Last June my 75-year-old mom had her knee replaced. This caused my sister and I to get “up into her business” in a more intimate way than either of us had for years.

We learned that she had not been taking care of herself, her pets, her house, her finances. We discovered dementia. Just learning about this.

So I got to be the “bad cop” and my sister dragged her feet every step. But also she was my sounding board, and we grew closer than ever throughout the transition.

Yea for us! We got Mom moved into a retirement home. We donated and distributed her stuff and emptied her home, which I sold to a contractor who will gut it and rebuild. I actually got Mom to agree to his price and drove her to the title company and got her to sign to sell. Contractor-buyer was so so sweet and respectful to her. Church friends helped her feel comfortable in her new retirement apartment.

So in a few days my sweet sweet Hubby and I are going to take her on a fabulous Caribbean cruise where the whole boat is all jazz artists, their families, their band members, or fans like me. We booked this a year ago when we believed her when she said she could afford this. Before we knew that she did not know.
