1st Week of Rehearsals in Boredoms

Rehearsals for my play started Monday (which I have been hungry for since September) and I’m feeling good about it. We’re still experiencing a small issue with a part that refuses to remain cast but otherwise it’s off to a good start, I think. We finally got to meet our Satan last night and it was good to finally have her there to work off. She has a very fierce look and I think she fits the part beautifully. It was also my first time getting to delve more into my big scenes (both with Satan and with Jesus). I was a bit worried about the fact that the director didn’t give me much in the way of notes, though. When she did I made sure to show I was eager for the feedback…maybe when we get on our feet and start blocking it?

I convinced the director I should be at more rehearsals than I am scheduled for, mainly the monologue workshops since Saint Monica’s monologue is strongly centered around my presence and I need to be able to get accustomed to what she’s going to be doing to me (hitting, kicking, shoving) so I can maintain my composure. I also need to toy with how I’m going to be sitting during the play since I’m there pretty much constantly, just in a comatose state. I tried kneeling during one of the giant monologues but my poor old knees can’t take that shit. Whatever, we’ll figure it out.

Work is threatening to pick up along side all of it, which is nice but also threatens to leave me pretty wiped for rehearsals. I might just have to spread things out more, work-wise. Good thing I have such a crazy flexible job. It’ll be nice to be busy for a few months, though! I made the mistake of expressing that sentiment to a work person who responded by saying something to the effect of: “If you want to be busy all the time, try having kids!”. I just rolled my eyes and thought to myself: “I don’t want to be busy ALL THE TIME, dumb ass! Now, I’m going to go home, take a nap, maybe play some video games for a few hours…have fun with your complete lack of personal time.” I love when breeders do that, it’s provides strong reinforcement (which isn’t really needed but I’ll take it) for my anti-children lifestyle.

Good luck with this! I look forward to hearing more about it. What is the part you haven't been able to cast?

Simon the Zealot. The director really wants just anybody who isn't white for the part but it appears as though theater is a white person's game because holy crap are we have issues.
