not because i wanted to.
i HAD to!
i watched season 1 and season 2 in a matter of 3 days total.
like i went completely 100% sunday, monday, tuesday and watched NOTHING else.
i skipped the grammys for them
i even skipped madonnas peformance (this is a big deal) because of them
i even first time ever took a lunch break in my entire 8 YEARS of working at my employer and was insistent on watching it at work on lunch.
i even got valentina (my niece) involved in several epiodes that she watched with me so when i shared with her the latest of season 2s that i watched last night with the ending she actually KNEW who i was talking about.
i can NOT believe i missed this in 2010. i have no idea what i was doing back then to miss such a series. for the last 3 days secretly i have been like freaking out about going to london. and part of me is some sort of fantasy dream like state. i want to go to highclere castle.
like i feel i NEED to go there. thing is i looked into getting tickets to go to the castle BUT it is sold out until july. IF i go to london ( i really hope i get to go) then i would ask my boss (if he is cool about it) to see if he can get me a ticket to go to the castle. we shall see if this is in my destiny.
i am beyond jealous of those of you who have been watching this show since 2010 or even just knew about it.
as you can see i love it. i mean it has been a long time that i watched something i like so much i gave up 3 days including many sleeping hours to watch the show. lol.
with that although you all probably know about these seasons here are some general thoughts.
music- you all know i absolutely ADORE the music. it is mesmerzing.
period- anyone that knows me knows i love anything about this period.
clothes- love the clothes but love all of the accessories, jewerly, hats, gloves. love it.
location- breathtaking. green lush grass and beautiful surroundings. i must imagine most of the crawleys must have enjoyed growing up in such a place.
language- i love the properness in all that is conveyed in this show. no curses are needed and no crudeness. i LIKE how one can speak properly without becoming vulgar. i just like it. i even learned several new words i have never heard of before. just fantastic vocabulary. i have been using the term “put a sock in it” in the past 3 days. who would want to say “shut the hell up” . it just sounds so trashy lol but in all seriousness i say it in the the most respectful way. i have always loved how the brits talk since who knows when. there are even some phrases in how they say some things that can be used in modern day terms.
class- yes i know there is a class system as there is in modern day life- something i can understand but i like that there was change- there was some openess to change
servants- what i enjoy is that even the servants are TREATED with the utmost respect. i like that the servants take PRIDE in their job. in whatever they are doing it is appreciated and are given the opportunity to serve. to do their job. i admire this.
the romance, drama, suspense, and scandals including the music that goes along with it – i love it all! LOVE IT. i sat and sometimes whispered awes or i shouted i can not believe such and such did that. i smiled with a grin on my face when something magnificent happened. it is captivating :)
standards- i LOVE that there are standards here. on this show. i like that the everyone single person on the show (except thomas and mrs. obrien) have standards. you should never forget them!
i can go on and on but i will leave off with some characters and thoughts. i will be speaking about them as if everyone knows what i am talking about. maybe you do and maybe you do not.
hope i am not boring anyone! :)
— i still can not BELIEVE WILLIAM IS DEAD. i was so sad to see that he died. i wanted him to have a chance in life. with daisy. or with someone. he was so sweet, kind, and thoughtful. beyond sweet. i think william is one of those men who is a true keeper.
— i like daisy. sweet girl. learning about life and situations as she goes. needs to stop saying sorry to mrs. patmore.
— i can not stand most of the time mrs. obrien who is two faced and for what she did to lady crawley when she was pregnant. so horrible.
— i can not believe theo james was in this series. i find him to be so utterably hot. even though he died in a crazy way i think he is hot.
— i love carson. i love his kindness but i also love his strength. i love his standards and i love how he always corrects everyone in making sure people are not spoken about and to remind them whos house they are in. he reminds them about respect
— i respect lady sybil for wanting to step out of the box of being a “lady” and adding more to her life. becoming a nurse helping out. even for the fact that she married outside of her so call “class” and married the driver. i am glad her father gave her his blessing and that she married for love. not money or a title. i guess for some that may be hard to do but love is priceless. being in love and loving someone having that feeling is a true treasure.
— clearly i love violet, dowager countess of grantham. she always funny or witty things with the most serious faces but she also has alot of WORDS of wisdom. so many words to the wise. her thoughts, standards, and properness reminds me very much of my mother. i can almost hear my mother saying very similar things about romance, men, and marriage when it comes to my own personal life.
— i love mr. bates and thought he was a nice man from the very beginning. he just had some back luck in life but i never judged him. ever. sorry to see he is in prison but i would suspect it will be sorted out. i also like that the crawleys stood by him.
— just as much as mr. bates i loved anna from the very beginning also. a very nice and sweet lady who takes pride in her job. is quite loyal also and i like that. i like that she saw past the back luck with mr. bates. very happy they are married. i like that lady mary also took some time out of her own issues to support anna.
— i forgot her name but feel bad for the middle sister - lady. clearly she is part jealous of lady mary but i believe in time she will find her real love.
—thomas… i never liked thomas from the beginning. just a shady kind of person.how could he take the lords dog and hide him also. serves him right for buying those bad food supplies. he also talks so much crap about everyone. always the negative and obrien just cheers him on. best thing he did was help out in the army and also help carson when he was not well. i hope he changes.
— i liked the lord. did not like him kissing that maid but-----well. i forgave him. i did. i like he is holds the family together and i love how he sometimes conveys his thoughts. such strength and perserverance in his tone. when he says something you listen!
— i did NOT like a few things lady cora said about the class system and considering she is not even a brit. especially the whole marrying for money and keeping the money in the family stuff. was sad to see she lost the baby. i also did NOT like thats she took away isobels crawleys thunder when she was helping with the hospital.
— mary… first hated mary with her same snobby, stuffy, money bit about marrage and keeping the money in the family. god forbid not to marry a person with a title or no wealth. hated her all of season 1 but she grew on me by season 2. glad to see she is FINALLY with matthew.
— nothing bad to say about matthew at all. i liked him from the very beginning. whether he adapted to “traditon” or showed the crawleys about being more modern. i liked him.
— nothing bad to say about his mum mrs. isobel crawley. nice lady that kind of gets a bit of crap from the others. i think she needs to be given more of a chance.
i respect that she went to help out during the war and also assisted in turning downton abbey into a hospital.
— could not stand the newsman mary was going to marry. he looked abusive. i wonder was he IN relations with livonia? i know he threatened her with a scandal but i am not sure.
i can write more but i will leave it at that.
