I changed the name of my phone to Bob’s Fabulous Life, so now when the speaker connects, it announces, “Connecting to Bob’s Fabulous Life.” I love that. Simple pleasures.
Silly, but it is good to remind yourself on a regular basis how great life is.
Someone I know (the Handbag) is living in a very different world. Hers is one of expectations of others. She knows the way things should be and is unhappy because they aren’t that way.
I don’t expect much from others, from life, or even from myself.
It is what it is.
Live and let live.
Yesterday, Olivia and I were hiking with Mattie and Matt. It was a good hike up to Spion Kop. The forest was thin, and I spotted a Western Tanager and a juvenile Bald Eagle. The view from the peak was epic.
On the way down the mountain, Mattie said that she wanted to visit a pub in Turtle Bay, but frankly, I’m tired of paying for all of our outings, so I said, “I don’t want to go. I don’t like going out to restaurants all the time.” And, “You know, your mom is retiring; we have to start watching where we spend our money.”
That really put the kibosh on the afternoon, but it needed to be said. Matt and Mattie are in their 30s, and they both have steady jobs. It is not right that they come over for dinner and not only don’t bring anything but also drink my wine and then take home leftovers.
So, live and let live.
It is what it is.
Mattie just bought a new bike. She probably spent thousands of dollars on that bike. I’ve been in BC for 6 weeks. I’ve made dinner several times. I’ve treated at pubs and breweries, wineries, and restaurants. It was time to change their expectations.
