I’m in pain. I ache.
Due to the holidays followed by getting sick for a few days I hadn’t been to Muay Thai in close to three weeks. Needless to say, I knew it was going to be a bad time.
I showed up about half an hour before and stretched, warmed up, did some drills and worked the bag for about 3 rounds. It was then that I realized I was almost completely gassed out and the class hadn’t even started. It was brutal. Randy said something about working off those tamales at some point which felt completely pointed at me. I totally ate tamales over the break. I’m hispanic. It’s pretty much a requirement.
Last night was also a first for me - we did our very first light sparring session without any headgear or pads. At one point I was paired up with Lindsey, a pro fighter who has fought for national titles. She knocked me around pretty good and I maybe hit her a total of 4 times to her 100 or so. I have a pretty nasty bruise on my side from where she caught me with a particularly well placed round kick.
I learned a lot. I learned that I don’t like getting punched in the face. I also learned that controlling the urge to flinch/close your eyes/look away when getting hit is going to be the biggest factor as to whether I’ll ever get good at Muay Thai. Despite all the hurt I’m feeling, I’m sticking to my plan and going to class in a few hours when I leave work. Ush!
Work’s been good. After the slack fest that was Friday, I’ve been keeping, busy and productive. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my work from home days, but since I’m going to the gym every day except Friday (the gym is real close to the office and far away from my place), I’m coming into the office and no one from my department is here. It’s kind of great. I’ve got my nice noise canceling headphones in and am jamming hard while getting shit done. I haven’t spoken to another human all day. It’s great. How did it get this good?
Not a whole lot of anything else going on. I’m going to go tinker on my phone for a bit before getting back to productivity.
