Control in Half-baked musings

Everything feels ridiculous right now.

The neighbouring county's MPs have written an open letter to the Reform Council asking them to reverse their decision to ban promotions of LGBTQIA "ideologies" from the county's libraries.

The books remain, but the "ideology" must be hidden.

You'd have to be privileged, entitled and willfully ignorant to enact a policy that bans the region's libraries from displaying any information about pride events in pride month.

And you'd have to have a worrying taste for control.

One lady stated that she agreed with the policy as sexual proclivities should be kept private and in the bedroom.

I find it absurd that the notion of "sexual diversity being primarily about sexual acts" is still lingering today. It's barely much better than Russian voices saying that being queer makes you a p43d0. But once again, it's not about queer people is it, it's about control.

I recently watched The Maid on Netflix. It was a beautiful series about a young Mum and her daughter escaping from a controlling, addicted, partner.

He never lays a hand on her, but bit by bit he removes her freedoms and intimidates her.

It was written so delicately and was powerfully moving. I have friends, people I love, who have been that terrified, brave, determined and inspiring young Mum.

I have many more friends who have suffered abuse in its many forms within their relationships, families and places of trust. And it feels absurd to say that I am in the very lucky minority.

Control is an incredibly ugly beast and Reform are an incredibly ugly party.
