Mostly Pictures in Day to Day

So, Christmas and New Year are over for another 12 months. I don’t hate Christmas, but I have to say, I’m glad when it’s all over, and I don’t like the cold and wet of winter. The one really positive thing about Christmas is that it marks the point at which the days start getting longer. It’s all downhill to summer from here!

First day back at work today. It’s quiet in the office. Most people are still on holiday. I actually fired up the laptop and worked a couple of hours from home yesterday. I don’t know why. No one will notice that I actually worked New Years Day. At least it’s only a one day week this week.

Between Christmas and New Year we visited both Longleat and the Roman Baths at Bath. Longleat was hosting an exhibition of Chinese lanterns which was actually really impressive. The Roman Baths I have seen before, but it was a new experience for the boy. He has been to the city many times, but never visited the Roman remains. He seems very interested in the Romans and spent a lot of time listening to the audio guides and poking around.

I haven’t got a lot of time to write, so here a bunch of photos from the Longleat festival of light. I’ll post the Roman bath pictures another day.

The dragon was beautiful and made of rice bowls and little plates, lit from the outside. His head moved and he blew smoke from his mouth.

Close up of his head.

The elephants were life size!

Hundreds of animal lanterns

These are QiLing apparently and they were made of thousands of tiny bottles of coloured water lit from inside.

There were hundreds of pandas.

That’s me with the boy and a couple of peacocks. Do we look cold? It was about -2C by that time!

We drove round the safari park before they turned on the lanterns.

Congratulations if you got to the bottom. I’ll write more soon.
