I went to an AA Meeting at 8 PM on Wednesday. After the meeting a few of us went to a local Coffee house because both of the sons of a friend, teenagers, were performing. They were great, School of Rock style, and the mixed audience enjoyed them tremendously.!2:30 pm I went home tired and happy as well as sober and laughing at all those people in time square who had waited out in the cold for upwards of 8 hours without food, booze or bathrooms. I must be getting old.
Tuesday night at an Anniversary meeting a woman I know from the program stood before the group to tell us od her happiness for the program and her 22 years of sobriety. Her family sat proudly in the church, daughter, son and husband.
” Without this program she would never have been able to become a better Daughter, Mother, Friend Wife or Widow ” she stated before succumbing to uncontrollable laughter of embarrassment. Several of us after the meeting advised the hapless husband to immediately employ as food tester.
My missing sponcee, John, surfaced in a phone call yesterday afternoon. He told me that he was just out of a Hospital for anxiety, detoxing and depression. He wants to get back to meetings and without me. He is totally without money, family and is reaching out for the only hope and salvation he believes in; his sponsor and AA.
I asked the decades old question asked at the beginning of AA 80 years ago,
” Are you ready to go to any lengths for your sobriety? ” and without knowing it he gave the age old answer ” YES “
I am praying that this time it will last but that is up to him and his higher power. I cannot get anyone else sober and have enough difficulty in maintaining my own. I can help however.
