My travels across the YouTube landscape today brought me through the sad and unfortunate world of mumble rap. I don't know what brought me there, but I will say this.
If the world of rap had a dirty ass, mumble rap would be the cheeks, anus, and the foul stench emanating from that entire lower region. Mumble rap is the worst variety of rap that the entire rap genre has to offer. I don't know what the second worst variety would be, but mumble rap is just fucking terrible.
Lil Xan (who apparently derives his name from the prescription medication, Xanax) is complete trash as far as rappers go, mumble or otherwise. Actually, I'm willing to bet that he's probably worthless as an overall performer, regardless of whatever the hell it is he does on stage.
Lil Xan once did an interview where he described the late 2Pac's music as "boring". Blasphemy, for sure. Old-school rap heads are not going to stand for that kind of stupidity, especially when you consider the dumbass who said it.
I don't know where exactly I got this information on YouTube, but I learned somewhere on the platform that Lil Xan once "performed" 2Pac's iconic, "California Love". I don't know what his motivation was for doing this, but curiosity made me want to see what in the hell this sounds like. This would be like hearing Daniel Caesar perform anything from Luther Vandross' music library. Why would we want to hear a subpar performer do a cover any kind of classic song by a musical legend? So, you can imagine my first thought when I learned that Lil Xan had reportedly performed California Love. I was briefly horrified. Then, curiosity took over.
Below is a video of that Lil Xan "performance" of California Love. Much love and credit to the Comedy Bank for posting this video.
The title of this video is very, very misleading.
Lil Xan Disses 2Pac On Stage Then Performs California Love
Uh, no, he does not. Feel free to watch that video a second time, but nowhere in that video does Lil Xan perform California Love in any capacity. Someone in the comments of that video questioned whether Lil Xan even knew the lyrics to the song. I would question that as well. Even if he happened to know the lyrics to the song and do just half the song without mumbling, I highly doubt that Lil Xan could perform California Love and come even remotely close to doing the song justice.
I love my YouTube, but every now and then, it will lead me astray and sometimes send me to the shitholes of the universe. Today, that shithole happened to be the anus of the rap world.
Incidentally, Lil Xan is one of the biggest turds to ever call himself a rapper.
I'll still be hitting up YouTube, but damn it, YT, please no more Lil Xan videos.
