Alone in this dark pit

I’ve been here many times before.

The silence reminds me of my endless torment.

The static in the air creates pressure in my ears.

My heart races—

its pounding swallowed by the dark.

I am not tormented by chains,

but the imprisonment of my thoughts.

My mind spirals.

One thought after another keeps me from rest.

I give a silent scream—

“When will the madness end?!”

Then—

a light breaks open above me.

Its warmth pierces over my skin.

I’m washed by its rays.

I’m baptized by the dawn.

Hope—

the very thing I longed for—

spills over the horizon.

A new hour begins.
