The run-up to my birthday has the yearly tradition of all my medical check-ins. I do my annual physical with labs, then get to visit THREE different providers for my eye exam, retinal exam, and glaucoma exam. (Everyone is a specialist these days!) Then there is the dental check-in and cleaning. Possibly another CT or ultrasound to check the status of kidney stone formation (an experience I hope to never repeat). Happily these are usually the only encounters with the medical establishment - as a patient - that I have to deal with until the next year.
Not too bad for moving into my seventh decade of life. I have peers whose diary entries primarily consist of cardiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists, urologists, orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and gastroenterologists! Mine is still luncheons, dinner parties, and wine tastings. Happily I have made it thus far with all my factory-installed equipment in reasonable working order, with minimal reliance on Big Pharma.
