It always pisses me off to the highest degree when ever I see or hear about how a celebrity, be it an athlete, actor/actress, singer etc. can get into trouble and seem to only get a slap on the wrist.
Case in point....Olympian Michael Phelps. He went to court on his 2nd DUI charge in 10 years and instead of going to prison for a year he ends up getting 18 months of probation so that he can be able to compete in the Olympics in Rio. He is not allowed to drink while on probation.
Although he did go to rehab to get help and has even joined AA and admitted to having a problem, what in the hell makes him any better than you or me??? He had a blood alcohol level of .14 and needless to say .08 is the legal limit, he was also going 40 mph OVER the posted speed in a tunnel. If you, me , or anyone else of non-notoriety got stopped for the same offence, we would be put under the damn jail.
Why is it that in this great country of ours that our judicial system seems to reward instead of punishing “people of fame” whereas the rest of us have to pay for our mistakes/wrong doings regardless of our circumstances??? Are the famous really better than the rest of us??? Sad to say but it does appear to be so.
When will everyone be treated as equals regardless of social or even economic backgrounds??? We need a change in the way things are done when it comes to the preferential treatment of people of fame. If they break the law then they need to be punished the same exact way that we would be with no exceptions. It has been going on for far to long now so I doubt things will ever change. Who am I to know what is right or what is wrong??? I’m just a nobody. End of story.
