Sorry I can’t think of a title. Jack at Food Bank, he’s a Team Lead as well, we interact, and have a connection. Jack’s father was a Division management for the former C&S, now BNSF. Another, connection, his brother, was a switch man for the C&S. Did Rice Yard and finished off at 38th Street with BNSF. I think he was a “night-fighter”, by choice. I knew of him, but did not know him personally. I ran in and out of Rice yard, handling Santa Fe and BN/C&S freights. Same at 31st Street and 38th Street yards. Was the same yard. 31st was the west end 38th was the east end.

Jacks wife came in Monday for distribution, she’s a lead as well. We are short, due to illnesses, ”Jack won’t be in, he’s taking care of his brother”. No problem, we’ll make it work. My second in command on my end is out for the week, along with her husband, ( another team lead) , due to personal issues. We are really short.

Charlie is making the Food Bank of the Rockies run. I’m taking charge, and Kendall can fill as well. We get the groups situated and on to the task. The sort is done, and onto Tuesday.

Tuesday sort and Distribution :
We get the loose ends done. I get my area people briefed and we start. It’s getting near restock and the second shift will be taking over. Kendall says “I’m Jack tonight, he says you’ll
Get me situated”. We go over what’s on hand after stocking. We have probiotic sodas that are slow movers, I need them gone period. “Front table those if you have to”. “Also, move the excess milk, I’ll check dates, for any leftovers on Friday.” Food Bank closes for the day at 600PM.

I find out later Jacks brother has passed on Monday. What time don’t know. I text Jack and give condolences.
Death is odd. We all grieve differently. A loss of a loved one, a wife, a husband, sibling, a close relative , it’s devastating . Us railroaders, it’s hard as well. I crew changed and interacted with many. Like I told my wife, as railroad men, we spend more time with each other, than our families at times. Death has its mark on all of us. God Himself only knows the day, hour, and exact time.
