while i have been missing penny dreadful and have to go all the way back to season one for homeland i am beyond intrigued with the series called “the affair” on showtime.
has anyone been watching it?
would love to have a catch up with anyone who has been watching it.
its the first season and the last episode is coming on sunday. there will be a second season.
the intrigue with this show is it is an hour long. it is about an affair that has occured between two married people but it goes way past----------the actual affair. the first 30 minutes shares the male side of the story and the other 30 minutes shares her side. so technically its a 30 minute story. you are sort of a cross roads to see which side do you believe. noah is the male and the female is alison. noah- school teacher, writer lives in brooklyn with his family. every year they go to montauk to vacation for the summer. montauk is in long island where i live but its far out east. in fact at the very end. it is called “the end” just like the doors song. alison is a waitress working at a lobster roll place but was a nurse prior to. she lives in montauk with her husband. his family owns a horse ranch in montauk. she lost her son in an accident when he was young and since then she did not want to be in the hosptial as a nurse so she waitresses at this moment.
so- besides noah and alison meeting and getting involved there are also other side stories going on. apparently alisons husbands family sells cocaine and has been dealing drugs for years, lies, black mail about businesses and also telling family members about this affair, a pregnancy, i believe also a death has just occured because noah and alison are constantly at the police station giving a testimony about events that have occured every episode. not sure who died yet. both noah and alison want to leave their families but -----its like so much to risk for this.
my perception-
when noahs story is told alison comes across very direct, manipulating, and very dominating. when alisons story is told - to me she looks timid, and doesnt have much of a voice. she looks vulnerable. you also get into the minds of noah and alison - to find out what is missing from their lives and what it may take to get what they need. thing is-----is it all worth the risk? or –is something conveying something that is not really there? what if its just one story but one person is imagining the other part? honestly i have no idea.
in any case. i think the writing is amazing. the actors are amazing also. at this moment i have to admit i have been more believing of noahs side of the story versus alisons.
