Just found out a co-worker lost their 5 year old girl to a random heart problem no one knew about. It happened at a Christmas party.

It’s their second child. The first one died quite young of SIDS. That’s tragic, of course, but somehow not wholey unexpected. SIDS is a real thing, it’s awful, but it’s a known risk, something people can think about. But when your kid is 5, you don’t think about things like that any more.

If you have kids, go hug ‘em right now. I’m totally bummed about about this, and I didn’t even known these people. I don’t know how anyone can face so much loss and keep going.

Two kids lost to one family. They’re now childless parents. God damn.
