Oh Happy Monday! Presentation at the end of this week. Lovely. My clerical assistant will certainly want to quit before Friday. I always go a little crazy before these things, and she is argumentative and questions everything I put in front of her. Unfortunately, about half the time she is correct in questioning, so I can’t ask her to stop. She catches silly little goof-ups of mine! It’s just that the other half of the time it makes me insane!! I am waaaaaaayyy too impatient. I try to tell myself to slow down. If I would just slow down I wouldn’t make these minor mistakes (typos and such). I guess it’s a vicious cycle. She’s gonna question anyway. Even if I was right every single time!!
The other problem is….she makes flub-ups too!! So I have to check and double check her work!!! I guess we are more alike than different…two peas and all that. She certainly does mean well, and I have to give her credit for that. For the most part, she cares about her work which is more than I can say for a lot of the other clericals around here.
The head honcho secretary for our area recently left. Thank heavens for small miracles!!! She was a nasty one! I don’t think she liked anyone. Sure, she’s had a rough life…extremely overweight, health problems, recently divorced, kid problems, etc. etc….but that doesn’t give her any right to screw around with everyone else’s life!! I swear to you when I say that for a while she actually had a say on what kind of ratings and raises we got! She was the one who would type out all of our appraisals, and her bosses (in the past) would actually let her have an opinion with regards to how we did our jobs!! Boss (the current one-the one who promoted me) would not have anything to do with that. Secretary had way too much power and Boss nipped that in the bud the minute Secretary tried to throw her weight around.
Oh…and there’s an update on the Lance front! Apparently, I’m not the only person he’s made uncomfortable around here. He is certainly non-discriminatory when it comes to the recipricants of his weirdness. My old boss (very handsome and very male) had heard some things through the grapevine about some things that Lance had said about him!! He even asked me if I’d heard Lance say anything about him. I said I hadn’t, but my assistant had because she still works for my old boss too (we share an administrative person). Honestly, I think some things may have gotten twisted around and lost in the translation (especially knowing my assistant!), but Lance’s comments about my old boss were supposedly sexual in nature. Supposedly. His comments could certainly be read several different ways.
Now, I work in an extremely political environment. We’re talking ridiculous here. I mean you can’t even look at someone crooked without an issue being made of it. So my old boss went to Lance’s boss and a huge stink was created! All I know is, I wouldn’t to be on my old boss’s bad side (or my current one for that matter!). He has a lot of pull in this company and I would just die! Honestly, I think it was mostly misunderstanding and joking around, but hey….you can’t really do that around here if you don’t know who you’re dealing with.
Anyway, I think the whole thing is going to eventually blow over. My boss told me that Lance went to him and apologized over and over and told him that he was really embarrassed about the whole ordeal. It is just all too strange! But I am glad that he’s not being so weird to me anymore. It’s almost completely strictly business, and I feel much better about that…especially since I’ve given him several projects to work on the past few days!
So there. Enough work crap.
Now…back to work!!!
