Ack! I can’t believe I slept the whole morning away! I was supposed to be at work all day today and now I’ve blown that all to hell. Oh well. I was supposed to drag my ass to the office yesterday too, and did I do that? No. The day was too beautiful, and I did a little “spring” cleaning around the apartment.
After cleaning, I was getting ready to take myself to the deli down the street for a snack and then a little errand running. My phone rang and it was Melissa, my best friend from high school! It’s so funny. We catch up about once a year and it’s usually around the holidays.
She and I chattered and laughed about old times and new times and it was wonderful to hear the continuation of her white trash saga (she would not be offended to hear me say that, by the way), and I told her about my loveless, yet fairly exciting life and we used up the entire 45 minutes of her phone card!
After the call, I took myself to the deli. Then to the used CD shop. Support local music, I say. Bought a CD by a local band fronted by a guy I crush on every time I see him. I’d been meaning to get it for a while now. Then to the trendy new shopping and entertainment area across the street. I decided to do a little Christmas shopping while I was out. Found some groovy picture frames on sale at Urban Outfitters (love that place…it’s just so damn overpriced!) that will make great little gifts for the girls at work.
On a whim, I decided to take myself to the tavern next to the new fancy-pants indie movie theater, just to check it out and see what’s going on. Well, the place was packed, and there was one barstool left. Smack in the middle of a bunch of guys. So of course I obliged when offered the stool! Had a fabulous time laughing with these guys. Had such a great time, I ended up getting pretty trashed and making silly wagers with them. Something about running three lengths of the nearby university football field, naked. My bet was that the key the one guy had in his hand wasn’t actually the key to the field. We argued so much that we got off track, so to speak. By the time they ended up leaving, we all knew what each other’s underwear looked like (more bets) and tattoo and piercing details (even more bets), and the last time each of us had sex (yes, I won this one). I won a whopping $9, which went to the bartender after the guys left (also after I gave Clif my phone number along with an agreement to play dominos [?] with him sometime).
On to round two of the tavern festivities: A woman was sitting two seats down at the bar admiring my beaded handbag. Her guy-friend told me that she liked it and asked where I got it. I casually let out an “oh, this thing…I got it in Hong Kong last week…” like I’m some kind of jaded globetrotting know-it-all. I’m not sure where that came from, but this woman was eating it up! Before I knew it, we were fast friends. She gave me her business card. Rebecca. Turns out, she manages the cafe inside the fancy-pants indie movie theater next door to the tavern! She turned out to be hilarious, and she and I got kicked out of the tavern at closing time with two of the cafe employees, one of whom lives in the fancy-pants lofts above all the shops. Rebecca and I had never seen the lofts, so we invited ourselves up to the guy’s place! Ha! It was very small and obviously overpriced, but cool nonetheless. The guy actually has a halfway decent view if you go outside and crank your neck all the way to the right! Oh well.
I ended up going home around three after giving Rebecca my phone number (she thinks I would love her daughter…whatever that means). On the way home, I noticed that Clif had called. His message was something about playing dominos that night! I called him back. It was well after three, and he was way asleep. Still, he asked me to come over and play. No way.
Home to sleep, sleep, sleep…dream…crazy dreams…sleep, sleep, sleep…the whole morning away.
Now I’m just waiting for the coffee to kick in. It’s after noon, fer crissake! I slept like a log!
Went to Mom and Dad’s for Turkey Day. Nice. Very nice. I’m not sure if the weather could have been more perfect. Even that big rainstorm we got Friday night was so soothing and wonderful.
I stuffed myself in the normal Thanksgiving way and feel all kinds of bloated now. I felt like such a cow that I didn’t even take any turkey leftovers home like I usually do. That’s really all I have to say about that.
It is always fantastic to see Mom and Dad…at least on the first day of a visit. Why do moms and dads get annoying after that? I love them so much, but there’s only so much I can take of them before I lose it on them! Actually, that wasn’t really the case this time. I’m getting to the point where I worry about them and their health. They are probably healthier than I am what with their diets and exercise, but you know. They look like grandparents! Someone needs to give them grandbabies!! And it’s not gonna be me right now, and I don’t see it being my brother anytime soon, either.
So they fuss over their cats. They have never been cat people until someone dropped these two kittens on their doorstep last New Year’s Day. Their world has never been the same. They are crazy about these cats. I’m a little concerned…
I wish I hadn’t stressed so much about work while I was there. I stressed about getting home yesterday so that I could go into the office. And then I didn’t! And now I’m procrastinating again!
With that, I’m off to pull my life together and go to the office for a few hours. If nothing else, just to ease my stressed and troubled mind.
…I think I’m still drunk.
