In an effort to start putting a positive spin on at least some of my entries (and also in hopes that it will shake me from this slump), I’m compiling a list of things that make my heart flutter. Some of these things come very easily and naturally. Some of them take me waaaaaaaayyyy beyond my comfort zone. All of them make me feel….ALIVE!!!

  • Getting on a plane that will take me far across the ocean to a place I’ve never been
  • Unexpected snail mail…usually containing a hand-written letter (a lost art?)
  • Being on stage. Public speaking. Better yet—public singing!!
  • A job interview
  • Competition
  • The feeling I get after a good workout
  • Cliff jumping (terrifying, but thrilling!)
  • First dates (ditto)
  • Finding music that moves me so much I get chills every time I hear it
  • Making large purchases (largest purchase of mine was my car)
  • Hearing the words “I love you” come out of his mouth for the first time
  • Saying it back
  • Introducing myself to a stranger
  • Wearing that perfect outfit. You know the one—the one that naturally makes you walk taller, smile bigger, glow brighter…
  • Cooking a new dish. One that comes out surprisingly delicious (this is rare and really does make my heart thump!)
  • Hiking to the top of a mountain. Feeling a sense of accomplishment. Looking out over creation.
  • Getting a promotion at work
  • Spending the first night in a new apartment
  • Getting unexpected flowers at work
  • Road trips
  • Rollercoasters
  • The first day of school
  • The last day of school
  • Learning phrases in different languages that can be used in foreign countries…and actually being understood!
  • Nailing the punchline
  • Seeing a live band (especially in small venues)
  • Reunions: high school…family….lovers
  • Seeing certain e-mails in my in-box
  • Feeling that “click” with someone
  • Getting that phone call
  • Making or beating a deadline
  • Winning
  • Recognition
  • Inside jokes, secret phrases, signals
  • That “knowing” look
  • Special treatment
  • Complements from total strangers
  • Feeling the next big step is right around the corner and actually taking it

    Happy Friday.
