I’m running out the door in a few minutes because I have the day off and I’m going to my parents’ place to do a little early weekend flea marketing.
But I feel the need to write these two things down:
1. Job interview ROCKED!
It was a whirlwind trip there and back. Woke up late and thought I was going to miss the flight! Luckily I had everything all laid out and my portfolio all in order. And I sped through the preparations and was out the door lickety split! Did some additional research on the plane. Landed smack in the middle of the country, and was whisked to the company’s office by the HR manager (said they usually send a car, but he wanted the opportunity to talk with me).
The company itself is very small compared to what I’m used to right now. Everyone knows everyone else. I didn’t much like the administrative area (kind of dreary and dull), but when I was taken to the 4th floor (design/marketing/creative), I got pretty excited. I was interviewed by eight people in three hours, including the very cool woman who would be my counterpart, and I was thouroughly exhausted by the time I got back to the airport.
Someone recognized me at the airport!! I noticed a guy kinda looking too closely at me and started to get a tiny bit uncomfortable. Then he finally approached me and said, “Don’t you work for [my current employer]?” He had worked there too and left the company a few years earlier, and I didn’t even recognize him! Told me he was very happy about leaving when he did. I then confessed that I was in town for an interview. He told me that it was a good move.
As soon as I landed back in my city, Tiff called me to invite me to a happy hour with the company who introduced me to the company I had just interviewed with (is this getting confusing?)! She didn’t know that I was interviewing that day! I was still in the airport! She also wanted to cordially invite Super T. to join us. She thinks we make a fantastic couple. I had no problem with that whatsoever!
2. Super T. should be renamed Super H.O.T.!!!!
I called him on the drive home from the airport. Told him that Tiff had invited him to join in on the festivities after work. He was more than happy to come along! In fact, we decided on a meeting place so that we could go together.
He pulled up as I was talking with Best Bud on the phone. I was telling her all about the interview, and she was being her complete loving and supportive self. She gave me all kinds of negotiation advice and pumped me up completely. Finally after she made me feel on top of the world, she announced her wonderful news: she got her second HUGE RAISE this year! She is awesome and I’m so proud of her!! That’s her positive attitude working for her. I’m 100% sure of that. My role model.
Super T. is such a gentleman. He pulled his car over to pick me up, but instead of just waiting for me to jump in the car, he got out, gave me a big hug and kiss and opened the door for me. Little thing, but it goes a long way with me.
We made it to the bar. Strange little place with a Polynesian theme. Reeked, and I do mean stank of incense. Overload. Yeauch.
Super T. was sooooooooo wonderful with all my whacked out work buddies. He’s polite and adds so much fun to the conversation. All of my friends gave me a nod, a wink, and a thumbs up every time he had his back to me or looked away.
I left him to say hello to Maria (who is the head honchette of the company that gave me the reference), and she whispered, “You did a fantastic job today! [Prospective company] called me as soon as you left the building! They loved you!!”
I had no idea that they were in such close contact about the whole interview thing! But she told me that she gave me a major recommendation, and that they were really excited about me. Her comment put me on top of the world!
Meanwhile Super T. was being his sweet friendly self with someone I didn’t know! Some pretty young thang. I think he could sense just the tiniest twinge of insecurity coming from my direction, and reached over and wrapped his arm around me and asked me if I wanted to split the smelly bar scene and invite Tiff and her hubby to get something to eat with us.
Had a fun dinner at my new favorite little pizza joint.
Super T. conveniently lives about four blocks from said pizza joint.
That’s all I’m gonna write about that because I’m going to be late getting to Mom and Dad’s if I don’t get off of this computer!
