No. I didnt just disappear. Im back. A little weary. No. A lot weary.
Miami just wasnt the same since we werent staying on South Beach. We actually stayed on Key Biscayne. It was beautiful. Great resort. The weather cooperated. But it just wasnt the flippy dress wearin, salsa dancin, Latin lover kissin good time Im used to having when I go to Miami.
Thats fine. I was there for work. And I really had to work this time. I was presenting at 8:00am sharp each morning, and it was my first sales meeting. So I figured it was wise for me to kind of get a handle on what these meetings are all about. I can cut loose next time if I feel like it.
What I did find out is that these meetings are really supposed to be old-school type camaraderie builders. And of course that includes a lot of golf, food, alcohol and acting like fools.
And yes, there were a few fools. After each dinner, it appeared mandatory to belly up to the pool bar and sing some crazy song with the crazy bartender and then do margarita shots that hed line up, literally by the hundreds. At one point, the president of the company challenged some of the sales guys to race across the pool in their underwear. Winner gets $1000. Okay people. These guys couldnt wait to strip down to their tighty whities. And then walk around in wet underpants long after theyd gotten out of the pool! Ew! Hello, Shrinkage! Wonder if they get a bonus for doing that? It certainly was no bonus for our eyes!
Whatever. I was on pretty good behavior if I do say so myself. Honestly, I think it was because I had a very hard time relaxing on this trip. I mean, with the car wreck before I got there, the fact that I had to present, and the fact that I really didnt know these people made it hard for me to get into form, if you know what I mean.
It was an effort to be just social enough to not be considered too straight-laced yet keep my decorum. I think Im more tired from trying to figure out how to act than anything else.
One good thing though: I bonded with a co-worker who is very cool. We look like we could be sisters (she being the gorgeous one and me being the lets see .smart and sophisticated one! Hah!), and of course, we used that to the fullest potential! I mean, we are exactly the same height, have exactly the same red hair color (VERY unusual), and dress really similarly. Of course, it gave people something to talk about. By the end of the trip, we were being called bookends! Even at the airport. She got into a different line than I did, and the security guard pointed her out and asked if we were together! It was fun to play that up, and my boss seemed to get a kick out of it. Id say well worth it.
It was strange coming back to this town. I was actually excited to get back home. And when I got here and got a little settled in and showered my kitty-boy with about an hour of love and attention, I was sooooo happy to be here.
Better go for now. Busy day ahead of me. Gotta do the car insurance thing today and try to get that all straightened out (so far $2400 worth of damage and counting). My new table and barstools are in. Gotta figure out how to pick those up. Need to find my friendly neighborhood post office so that I can send Xmas packages (like Ive even done any shopping .grrrrumble). Gotta try to go to the new gym and get in a kickboxing class. And what else? Oh yeah. Work.
Oh .and Hot Orthodontist called me! Need to call him back today!
