Warning: Boring Entry Alert.
Its party planning crap. This is just me thinking this through in an attempt to get organized and motivated.
In case you dont already know, my parents and my brother are coming to my place for Thanksgiving. Im going to do the dinner (afternoon meal) with the family and maybe a few other people. Its going to be a small affair. But afterwards, Im having a shindig. Im planning on inviting about 50 people or so for cocktails and grub (dessert?). Im starting to get nervous about the whole thing and really need to break this puppy down into bite-sized pieces before the whole thing overwhelms me and I shut down completely.
So here are the chunks of things that I need to do:
Get guest bedroom together. This includes buying some kind of bed. Id still like to get a daybed with a trundle so it will become a king size sleeping unit. Unfortunately, I cant find a daybed that I like thats not thousands of dollars. My second choice is a day/couch kinda unit like this:
Bad scan, I know. But you get the gist.
I also need to include some more storage space (chest of some sort) and a desk-type somethingorother for my sewing machine and supplies. Lots to do in the guest bedroom department. Ive been working on this for months. Its time to take action. Now!
(1) Decide on furniture
(2) Order!
(3) Schedule delivery
(4) Hang drapes, pix, other deco.
Thanksgiving Dinner. I cant decide whether to have the dinner itself catered and worry about the party food for afterwards or do both. Ive done the Thanksgiving feast before, but never had a party afterwards. And Im afraid that Im not going to be able to do everything. My mom will certainly help, but to be honest, my kitchen is so small that it literally only fits one person at a time. Theres no way well both be able to be in there. Im honestly thinking cater dinner, and then make hors doeuvres/snacks/desserts and beverages. Yeah. That settles my mind quite a bit. And it will probably be a better meal anyway.
(1) Decide on whos going to do the cooking
(2) Decide on menu
(3) Order!
Party Gnosh. So yeah. Ive already mentioned snacks and beverages. Now what? I need to create a list of what Id like to serve. Im thinking wintry fare. Warm and comforting. Itll come later. Ive got bigger fish to fry right now.
(1) Look through recipe books/net
(2) Decide what to make
(3) Test drive recipes
Décor. I know. Bigger fish. But I need to list this too. I want to get a new wreath for my door, I already have wreaths that hang in my front windows with lights. Possibly more lights. Lots of candles. Oh yeah. Dont forget the gourds. Horn o plenty? Why didnt I buy all this crap when it was on sale last year for 75% off?
(1) Go to craft store and go crazy
(2) Clean like MAD
(3) Decorate like a fool
Invitations. Muy important! I need to come up with a cute idea and then make the suckers. I need to get my list of invitees together and make sure I have everyones address. I suppose I could do e-vites if push comes to shove, but Id really like to do something a little more personal and crafty (hand-traced turkeys? Ha!). Well see. But seriously. Lets think about this. Whenever I get invited to a party via e-mail, I find it handy and easy to refer back to when I need a map. I never lose the damn thing, and its very easy to forward in case someone does accidentally delete it. I suppose I could do both, right? Send something cute in the mail early (because people will need at least three weeks notice for a holiday party), and then do an e-mail reminder.
(1) Figure out design
(2) Guest list/addresses
(3) Make
(4) Send
(5) E-mail reminder
Party!!! But what the hell to wear? My brain cant handle it right now. Ill get back to ya.
I think that about covers it. Ill probably chart progress as I go. But at least I have a skeleton to work with.
