It’s so nice to hop on here and see that everyone’s written! My faves are lit up like a Vegas Christmas Tree! Whoopeee!

Here I am at Lake BFE, somewhere in Texas. I’m at my parent’s house, sitting in my dad’s little office. Dad wasn’t feeling good so he went to lie down. I think he ate some bad shrimp at dinner. I hope he’s okay.

Mom and I have already pre-prepared tomorrow’s breakfast casserole. All we have to do is pop it in the oven and make a nice fruit salad. Don’t I sound like the little homemaker?

I’m really enjoying my vacation. It’s good to be here at the folks’ place. I love it here, even if it’s fairly white trashy. I have to wander out into the street to get a cell phone connection. That’s pretty frickin’ funny sometimes. I guess it depends on how the wind is blowing or something. I walked outside when I first got here to find a decent connection, and as I was wandering through the middle of the road, some boys drove by in their gigantic pick-up. I think they were high school aged. About four of them. They drove by twice, and then on the third go-round, they stopped and asked me if I knew where #118 was. I told them no, sorry. And their response was, “I like your butt.” And they drove away screaming, “I love your ass!”

Festive, no?

And good ole’ Kyle across the street decided to burn leaves today. As I walked out into the middle of the road again to find a weak little connection, I could see that he got a bonfire going real good. At first it smelled wonderful, bringing back memories of campfires and smore-making. But a few hours later it just about smoked us out over here, leaving me feeling like I’d smoked a pack and a half.

Not sure why, but I feel this constant urge to stay in touch with civilization when I’m here.

Took the parental-mobile into “town” (Dallas) yesterday to do a little wandering. I did a little shopping in the old ‘hood, and just happened to drive past the old apartment. I was kind of surprised that I got so sentimental. After all, it was just a little old house where I lived for just a little over a year and a half, but I guess so many things happened there in such a short time…so many adventures, so many lovers, such struggles, and quite a few tears. I really loved that old place, but I’m also so happy to be where I am now. I’m also reminded that I still have a long way to go. I don’t know. I guess I just see that little house as something of a mile marker.

Later, I met Lovely Leah for a happy hour that did end up lasting most of the night. Well, really all night if you count the fact that I spent the night with her. We almost got her friend Clint to come back to her place with us, but he chickened out! Hah. I bet our other friend Chrissie would have stayed over too…if she hadn’t had that 7 am flight to New York! Yikes. I hope she made it.

Honestly, it was a pretty uneventful night. It was Tuesday, after all. And most people are traveling or home with their families…or at least being somewhat mellow and introspective during this time of year. So it was a bit of a challenge trying to have a 30th birthday blowout. We did the best we could.

Lovely met several eligible bachelors, but we were mostly hanging out with sweet, married Clint. We teased him like there was no tomorrow, and since his wife was out of town, I could really see the wheels turning when we told him to come home with us. He actually invited us to his place. Told us he’d fire up the hot tub and everything, but we really needed to get to Lovely’s.

Poor Lovely had to work this morning too. We’d left her car in valet parking at the bar overnight because she was a drunk little puppy, so I drove her to work this morning.

Then it was back to Lake BFE. I mostly hung out today. Ran for 45 minutes on the treadmill, ate a yummy lunch (sans the roast beef that mom had made), took a nap, tried to stay out of the neighbor’s smoke, went to the red barn restaurant for dinner tonight, attended Mom and Dad’s teeny-tiny church service, prepared breakfast, and popped on here to check e-mail and OD.

I really have been enjoying the fam and the time off and all of the entertaining situations. I think I’ve already said that, but it doesn’t hurt to reiterate.

I hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy (if not kinda red-necky) Christmas.
