Its been a long time since Ive done one of these, but last night my old nabe, Julie came by. Shed never seen my place before, and went on and on about how much she loves it. It got me to thinking about finally posting some photos so that if I do end up moving, I can look back and see how lovely this place is. I think its my absolute favorite place Ive ever lived. So heres the tour:
This is the building. I love its history. It was built in 1890, and was a furniture warehouse. The guy who owned the company was a big-time philanthropist and did a lot to help this city grow. I live on the top floor in the corner (upper right in the photo):
When you walk into my place, heres what youll see. Its an open living space, the kitchens on the left, and there are partial walls that separate two bedrooms. I love how the light just streams in through the windows in the morning. Its too intense for most people (feedback from the few people whove ever spent the night here), but I adore that sunshine. The artwork above the telly is by a local artist.
This is the view from the opposite angle:
Heres where Im writing today. I adore this table. Its the one I snagged for $15 and repainted very sloppily. You can see the gigantic brush strokes. Also, I love my new laptop. Especially since I can now tote it into the bedroom and tippity-tap from there too. And theres my coffee. And the latest edition of Elle mag. Lindsay looks much better as a redhead, no?
The kitchen area is mainly used to make coffee and feed the kitty. There are a couple pieces of cheese, some frozen dinners, and a few veggies in the fridge, so I wont even go there. If I do end up buying the place, I think Id like stainless steel appliances simply for the look value, since the kitchen is in view as soon as one steps inside. And yes, thats a rooster on the bar. Visitors must be impressed by my beautiful cock because they always make comments about it.
This is where the magic rarely happens. But when it does
And heres the other bedroom. If you came to visit, youd sleep here. Unless you and I were going to create some magic then refer to previous pic. My bicycle (not pictured) also lives in this room. And Im going treadmill shopping this afternoon so that my bike will have some company. Note the dress form in the corner. Shes wearing my favorite dress. My dad gave it to my mom when they were dating. She was 19. Mom gave it to me when I was a little girl. That dress has seen it all, let me tell you. From my playing dress-up days to talent shows to college dances to special dates to floors of hotel rooms and beyond.
And the icing on the top of my living space cake is the view, without a doubt. I live on the banks of a river in an old industrial area. Sure, its not New York or San Francisco or the front range of Colorado, but no matter where I go, I doubt Ill ever have another view like I have now:
Look! It’s so gorgeous outside. What am I doing in here? I need to get out there immediately.
