Flight to Montreal: Was upgraded to first. Had a champagne brunch with a helicopter financier.
The AMAZING Washroom: Stayed at the W in Montreal. Oh my heavens
what a dream. I found the tub so inviting that I immediately took a bubble bath.
The Freakout: The call mustve come in while I was in the tub. One of those frantic calls from my admin regarding a project that Boss Party Pants needed by Tuesday. Umm
I wasnt coming back to the office until Tuesday, and there was no way in hell I could DO the project unless I was in the office! It was too late to call back in at that point, and I didn’t get an immediate email answer to all the questions I had. What could I do? What should I do??
Tim on the Town: I knowdrink! I mean, my nerves were shot, but Id just taken the most luxurious bubble bath and all, and I needed an attitude adjustment for sure. So downstairs to the bar for me, where I almost immediately met Tim whod just moved to Montreal for a temporary contract job. I was sitting at the bar, glass of wine in hand, when he walked in and sat down and must’ve noticed my shaking legs (nervous twitch from thinking about project). So he laughed and introduced himself. I very quickly explained why I was so nervous and told him that I needed to get reports done on Montreal and Toronto and was afraid I was going to run out of time and didn’t even know where to start. SO! He suggested that he show me a couple of the places that I wanted to see–they were within walking distance. Really? Seriously? Because I told him I’d take him up on it (I was frantically desperate). I also told him that I noticed the wedding ring and that I would absolutely respect that. He told me not to, but I ignored that comment. We walked and walked and walked. Then stopped to get more wine and a snack…and then somehow ended up at…
Wandas: Okay, not just “somehow”. I’m not 100% sure how the conversation morphed into strip clubs, but I’d heard about Canadian clubs, and was terribly curious. And we just happened to be sitting next to a rowdy table at the sidewalk cafe where we were sitting. So we asked them where we should go. They told us about Wanda’s, and also told us they would walk with us there! Suddenly, we had a party! But just as suddenly, our new friends somehow ditched us at the entrance to the place, so then it was just Tim and me again. And it was weird being with him, cuz I could tell he was sorta up to no good at that point
nothing terribleI knew he was harmless. But I bet if Id been willing, trouble surely would ensue. We decided to leave and hopped a cab back to the W, which was a ½ block from his apartment. He did invite himself over, but once he walked me to my door, it was adios, er, bon soir for my friend Tim.
[side note/strip joint observation: doesnt anybody believe in pubic hair anymore?]
Get Lost! Next morning was spent clearing up all my questions with Boss Party Pants and my new boss (needs a name!). Turns out, the freak-out was for naught (thank goodness!) so I could relax and enjoy my trip from that point on. I did my thing and took bunches of notes, photos, etc. for work. And then I also took a few for fun:
Old and New
Pedaling for a kids charity (I believe thats what that wasit went down the street a dozen times, avec police escort and screaming/waving riders)
Fountain in Old Montreal
Steaming Fount
Beautifully lit building (cant remember what this building is
hotel? Library? Shoulda written it down).
St. Patricks Cathedral
It was around darktime that I got lost. I was wandering the streets, soaking it all in and looking forward to getting back to the hotel fairly early so that I could watch [Edina Devine]s show, Alice, I Think that evening. I had just been thinking how easy it is to navigate Montreal by foot, when I realized that Id been walking and walking and w-a-l-k-i-n-g
I mustve gone too far down one street or another, and I didnt recognize anything. So I finally broke down and asked someone. I got directions and started walking and walking and walking some more! Still lost. I asked someone else. More directions. More lost. At that point, I was going in circles. Finally, after asking a third time, I realized that I had been very, very close but just missing a turn or something. But I didnt make it back to the hotel until 10PM. Missed the show! And needed to go to bed anyway because I had a 7:00 flight the next morning.
up next
Toronto!!
