Just had an awesome thunderstorm roll through, so it appears I’m awake for the day! Good morning!

Today is Thursday, a week and a day after my interview, and I’m already getting ants in my pants. I knew they had a couple more people to give the once-over, but I was really hoping to hear back by now because I think they are quite ready to fill the position. And yes, I know these things take time, but there’s something about really having to wait and wait for something that KILLS me. Maybe it’s that now that I’ve had time to really mull things over, I really WANT this job.

I was talking with an old friend of mine last night from [former city], and she was just telling me that a fresh, clean slate in a new town might be just what I need to get my life back on track. And yes, I know that I’ve done this quite a few times, but I have to agree. I do well when I’m able to break away from all the crud that has been holding me down and start anew in a new place.

I’m going to try not to stress too hard about the phone silence. Please keep up the positive thoughts….thanks!

Meantime, I need to get more aggressive in the pursuing of other job options. I’ve sent out a couple of resumes, but certainly not enough to make me feel like I’m making progress. I think that the couple weeks it took me to complete that presentation got me in the mood to start working. I hate this lull and need to assume that I’m NOT going to get the offer and keep on plugging away.

Next order of business: MEN. Are you ready for the latest? Sit down.

Okay, so as you might know, I’d decided to take a break from trying to get back out there and date. Yeah, that hasn’t worked out so well. Because as I was making that decision, I realized I’d left a few residual loose ends out there.

One of them was Dumbass from the last entry. The other was…well, read on and we’ll figure out a name together, I’m sure.

I’d given my number to a potential date probably a little over a week ago, and he called me on Monday wanting to chat. I was not very excited to hear from him (see previous entry), and simply wanted to cut to the chase, so I asked if we could just meet and get any awkwardness out of the way (not so directly, but you get the point). I think I surprised him, but he was totally game and we set up a time and a place for a meeting the next (Tuesday) evening.

I get to the place a little early and make a couple of phone calls, check my email in the car and then go inside and sit at the bar and wait. Order a glass of wine and wait some more. After about 15 more minutes he walks in the door. Very recognizable, as he is like 6’5”, dark, and kinda barrel chested. OK, fine.

So he walks right over to me and asks, “Are you Holly?”

And I look at him like he has two heads, and he looks again and says, “Oh, I’m sorry, you look like someone I know…”

And then he walks away.

Um.

A few minutes later, he comes back to the bar and sits down two chairs over and orders a drink. I should have known better than to strike a conversation. I should have just let it go, but this was too strange.

So I just kind of give him a sideways glance and get his attention and say something brilliant like, “Really?”

And then he gets a look on his face like his brain is exploding, and he realizes….

Are you ready??

He set TWO dates up that night!!!

Yeah, so he slides over to the chair next to mine and tells me how embarrassed he is and that he’d just talked to Holly and so he was totally confused by seeing me there. I asked him if I look anything like Holly, and he said no, that she’s blonde. And then I ask him if Holly’s on the way, and sure enough, in walks Holly!!!

He whispers a bunch of stuff to me right before she sits down. Things like how beautiful I am and how he wants to be on a date with ME, and what is he going to do now???!!

I said, “You better figure it out very quickly!”

Holly recognizes him and sits down in the chair on the other side of him and kind of looks at me, and I smile at her. They talk for a while and I can tell he’s shitting his pants. I think sweat is rolling down his face, but I’ve already half turned away anyway and start looking at the menu while they say their hellos.

He orders her a drink and then turns to me and asks if he can buy me another drink and I say OK! And then he INTRODUCES me to Holly!! But he doesn’t offer any explanation, so at this point I so want to bow out of the whole thing, so I say, “Nice to meet you, Holly! This guy is so nice to sit with me while I wait for my friend!”

And then I turn back around and keep looking at the menu.

So I guess his panties get uncomfortable, so he excuses himself to go to the bathroom, and Holly turns to me and asks, “Do you know this guy?”

And I say again, “No, but he’s really nice! I have been waiting for a friend to show up and he just struck a conversation with me, so I was just talking with him…”

And she says, “Well, I don’t know him either, so if you guys are hitting it off…”

And I’m all, “NO, NO! I’m sorry to interrupt your date!”

And he comes back and sits down, and we all end up sitting there in comical silence!

Finally, FINALLY!!! I hear him say, “OK, I have a confession to make…”

I hear him tell Holly the story of how he accidentally set up two dates, and I turn back around and awkwardly laugh, and then Holly and give each other the look and instantly become best, best friends! She is pretty and gracious and hilarious and a ton of fun! We totally hit it off and even exchange phone numbers.

We all talk for a while longer. I’d ordered a salad, so they order an appetizer and we eat together, but Holly and I are totally mentally telling each other what a doofus this guy is, and Holly leaves as quickly as she can after eating.

And that is my cue as well because I wanted nothing more than to get the hell out of there. So I thank Doofus (or should that be TWO-fus?) for the laugh and wish him well, say goodbye and practically RUN out of the venue.

Seriously? How on EARTH do I find these guys?

Let’s just say, I ended up having a really nice night after that with TMG, but that’s another story for another time. I wanted to get that one out for posterity.

Now, I’m up. The rains have stopped for the time being. Need to get back online and on with the job search. I think K. is taking me to lunch (now that his ex has gone back home), and life goes on…
