It seems to be a cloudy, rainy day all over the country. Good time to catch up with my diary (though I’m skipping the gym—bad Ginger! I just don’t feel like getting out into the rain and making the 20-minute drive to my class…I could go upstairs to the gym in my building at any time, so I think that’s a better idea right now).

Let’s start with the New Orleans road trip, shall we?

It was good, good fun. And then some! Great to catch up with my girlies! This is the Anna/Lovely group…I met this group of girls about 15 years ago, first meeting Anna at work (in fashion, of course!), then Chrisie, then Lovely (at Anna’s wedding), then Barbi (our hostess, who lives in New Orleans).

This is also the extremely high-maintenance group. When I say it takes hours to get ready to do anything, I mean hours. I think I’ve written about it here, but I almost completely ditched this group of ladies because I got tired of making plans to do something on a Saturday night at 7:30, only to wind up finally getting out at 11:30! Seriously! It was maddening!

But individually, each and every one of these women are spectacular, and we’ve stood by each other through many trials and tribulations, so doing something like this every few years is actually very, very good for the soul.

You just have to know what you’re getting into with this group!

So to keep it simple, I will bulletize:

  • I was driving…for various reasons, but mainly because my sweet, sweet parents let me borrow their truckster so that we would have enough room for 4 girls (3 at first—4 on way back) AND luggage for 4 prima donnas.
  • Anna and Lovely were just a little over an hour late to my place (a record in promptness!), and we left just a little over 2 hours late because Anna hadn’t been to my “new” loft yet and we had to goof around here (I live directly across the street from the police station, so we took pictures of ourselves mooning the cops through my windows—and YES, they can see! Seriously, if I can see Officer Smith walking through the hallways with coffee cup in hand, he can absolutely see three asses squished against the window across the street!).
  • Drove 4 ½ hours to midway point, and at 2am, stopped at scarrrrrryyyyyy roadside motel to sleep a few hours. A crack dealer asked if he could stay with us as we were unloading the truckster. We almost left, but were so tired that we triple locked the door, wedged a chair under the doorknob, and put my giant suitcase in front of that. NO WAY any intruders could bust into THAT!
  • Up early and outta there. 4 ½ more hours to NOLA. Picked up Chrisie along the way (she flew into New Orleans). And then we were finally at Beautiful Barbi’s place! And when I say she looks like the doll, she does!! Blonde bombshell doesn’t even come close to describing her. She is a gorgeous and gracious hostess and welcomed us so warmly, even though we found out that her dad had a STROKE while we were on our way down! He was okay, but we almost turned around and went back home, but Barbi insisted we stay because she needed her girls around.
  • Talked and talked and then decided to get ready for that evening
  • Hours later….
  • Ready to go out! But first, a million photos of ourselves in Barbi’s little bar area.
  • Oh man, her house is stunning! She lives about a mile from where a levee broke during Katrina. He whole house was flooded (up to the 2nd floor), and somehow, they had the foresight to DOUBLE their insurance plan 43 days before Katrina (!!!), so it was completely gutted and redone and then some. Absolutely beautiful.
  • Amazing to see some houses still boarded up and spray painted. Many houses in Barbi’s neighborhood are still abandoned and a mess.
  • Finally out and about.
  • First, to neighborhood bar that Barbi’s friend owns. Sort of not our style, plus there was some confusion because Barbi was told we wouldn’t have a tab, but the bartender seemed unaware.
  • Couple phone calls, and we were on our way to the French Quarter to the already closed Rib Room (which was reopened just for US!) for a late dinner, complements of Mystery Benefactor!
  • Mystery Benefactor shows up as we were finishing and declares, “NO PICTURES!!”
  • Okay.
  • Mystery Benefactor takes us for a fun-filled walk through the French Quarter. We were having a BALL! Laughing and dancing down Bourbon Street, alllll dressed in black…heels and stumbling on the uneven bricks, laughing, singing, laughing!
  • I asked MB where we were headed, and he said to his friend Rick’s.
  • Yes, Rick’s Cabaret!
  • We walked in like we owned the place and we were escorted to the back area where MB’s friends were waiting for us!
  • Bubbly flowed!
  • The night gets fuzzy around this point. Let’s just say that a certain person in our group was not unfamiliar with the pole.
  • Someone sponsored a lap dance for me!
  • I kissed a guy in the men’s room.
  • We finally left.
  • As we were leaving, I was pelted in the head with beads.
  • I kissed another cutie on Bourbon Street, and he followed me to the car. I gave him my number.
  • Home to bed. I slept with Chrisie. Hard.
  • Woke laaaate. We were so slowing moving about.
  • Spent the afternoon lolling around, snacking, and giggling about the night before.
  • Finally made it up and eventually ended up sitting on the beautiful deck at Landry’s on Lake Pontchartrain. I know, it’s a chain. But the deck can’t be beat and the early evening was beatufiul!
  • Lovely flew her daughter in so that she could hang with Barbi’s two girls. So Barbi and Lovely went to visit B’s dad in the hospital and then pick up Lovely, Jr.
  • Meanwhile, Anna, Chrisie and I stayed on the deck and made friends with a bunch of HOT DOCTORS who happened to be sitting next to us!! They were friendly and harmless (married…except for ONE delicious single Latin Lovah—and you know how I love the LL’s!). They bought us mango mojitos (yum) and we told stories and laughed and took pix and had a great time with them. In fact, I promised LL that I’d send him the pix, so we exchanged info. (Update: I have since sent him the pix and we are making plans to visit each other!!)
  • Then back to Barbi’s, where we made the decision NOT to rally and go out, but instead to order pizza and watch movies with the little girls. So we watched 17 Again with the girlies (ages 13, 13 and 9), and I think the older girls (us!) were more in loooovvvee with Zac than the young ones.
  • And more glorious sleeeep! I would have slept deeply, but my phone kept getting blown up by Guy #1, the guy I’d given my number to on Stripper Night. He called/texted at 11:30, 2:30, and 4:45AM. Dude.
  • Next day, we finally got our act together and actually went to the French Quarter to do a little sight seeing.
  • Yes, it was Southern Decadence, but since we had the little girls with us, we decided to stay out of Blowjob Central and walk around the fringes. Still saw enough “fun” to get the point across!
  • Back to Barbi’s to get ready for the evening’s festivities: downtown hotspots with B’s friend Lisa (or Fleur de Lisa, as we affectionately named her that night!) and B’s husband, Eric (aka Easy E.!).
  • HOURS later, we were ready.
  • Hit a couple of places. And believe it or not, I was kinda movin’ and groovin’ to this one song, hanging out, minding my own business, when this guy comes up to me and yells (it was LOUD in there), “Is your name [Ginger]?”
  • It was Guy #1, who’d been blowing up my phone the whole weekend!! Stalker, or WHAT?
  • No matter, we let him hang out with us the rest of the night! It was fun and I got to have a dance partner and some kissy face! Plus, he bought us all shots and other various libations!
  • Finally got tired at around 4:30am and headed back to B and E’s house, after the greatest singing/photo session in the car! Obnoxious!
  • My alarm went off at 8AM!!
  • We were up and ready to be out the door by 10AM, which was a HUGE SHOCK to me. I seriously didn’t think we’d be out of there until at least 2PM!! But I made it a point to let the girls know that I had an “appointment” on Sunday night (meaning, a date with K.), and they were so cool about dragging themselves out of bed!! Even Lovely, Jr., who would sleep until 5 if we let her.
  • Said our goodbyes to B and E…they were the BEST!!
  • Drove, drove, drove, drove, and drove while talking and laughing and recapping the whole ordeal.

Aaaaah, fun! I can’t wait for the next time! There’s a ton of things that I didn’t get to do/see, and now I’m itching to go back again!

Look out, [allison.] and [chase.]…and even [Phaedrus]!!

So much more to write, but I’m going to have to take a break now. Remind me to tell you about Date #2 with Jim, my “appointment” with K., the black tie event with K., the job situation (which has already taken another TURN!!), the flurry of texts between LL and me, and much, much, MUCH more!!!
