Name: Ron

Age: 41

Relationship Status: Divorced, one boy (5), one girl (7)

Occupation: Computer something-or-other, payroll

Length of Date: 1 ½ hours

What We Did: Lunch on the patio of one of my favorite restaurants

He Wore: Whoa. One of the nicest casual dressers I’ve seen since EXMS. He wore a beautiful off-white linen shirt with very sharp khaki shorts. He bought a new pair of mandals (trust me, super nice) before our date. [on a side note: I think it’s so funny that guys get nervous when I say I’m in fashion. I can tell that they are interested in ME if they talk about how intimidated they were when planning for the date. If they are not really interested in me and just wanting to score a date with a chick, they usually don’t care]

I Wore: What I wore to church, as I arrived straight from the service: black knit wrap dress and multiple chain necklaces and bracelets, black peeptoe pumps and sunglasses

First Impressions: He was waiting for me inside when I arrived about 8 minutes late. VERY handsome—much more handsome than his photos. Incredible body—athletic and pretty much spectacular (I knew this from his profile photos, but he carries it so well in person). Very polite. Super nice smile. We got a table outside and the music was loud. It was really hard to hear…

Convo: It was an okay conversation. He is very soft-spoken so I had to listen intently to hear him over the loud music. We talked about all kinds of things, but he seemed to gravitate to music. He loves live local music, and our initial contact was actually about a band that I’d recently seen. I think I impressed him with my knowledge of the local scene. He has a sailboat and we talked about local lakes. I asked him quite a few questions about his kids, but we didn’t talk exes at all (thank goodness!). He’s really shy, and the conversation lulled a bit here and there.

High Point: Unfortunately, nothing really sticks out as a high point. I didn’t see tons of sparks in his eyes for me. No touching, no hearty laughter, no goofy grins. It was simply nice.

Low Point: No real bummers, either. I did notice that he got some salad dressing or something on the sleeve of his shirt, and he was trying to casually wipe it off, so that could have been his low point, but I guess the lowest part was not feeling any real chemistry. However, I’m not chalking this up as a loss because I feel like there is definitely potential here. I just got NO indication of his interest level.

How It Ended: He ended it shortly after we finished our meal [funny side note: we both love this restaurant and both knew what we wanted to order without even looking at the menu…and we both ordered the SAME THING]. His 5-year-old was having his first flag football game—ever! How cute is that? Plus, I had tentative plans to meet my friend and former co-worker at the lake with her kids, but that fell through after the date (hence this RAD report). We walked together to the parking garage and rode the elevator to where he parked his car. He got off and said goodbye…no handshake, no kiss on the cheek, nothing.

Chances I’ll See Him Again: I would say about 30-40%. I didn’t get a real vibe out of him. I’d like to see if there’s potential, but again, I didn’t get a fuzzy feeling out of this one.

Lesson(s) Learned: They can’t ALL be exciting. My RADs tend to go either smashingly well or insanely horrifying. This one was rather vanilla, but I’m not looking at that as a negative. After all, while spice is nice, vanilla can be tasty too!

<–entry fraught with spicy confusion, passion, and possible tragedy back one.
