Will do a life update soon. As well as answer the questions I’ve been asked.

Scouts honour.

I may as well weigh in about the Oscars. Chris Rock was a good presenter, but not brilliant. However, I think that comparing him to Billy Crystal is unfair, as Crystal is just so good at it. Steve Martin may be a better comparison. And I thought Martin was better than Rock. (Although I did like Rocks “If you want Denzel and can only get me, wait!” comment.)

Presenting awards in the audience sucks and just isn’t fair on the nominees (not just the winner). Having all the nominees on stage wasn’t that bad IMHO, although if they do continue that, they should do the same for at least one of the “big” awards.

The only Oscar Scorcese will win will be a lifetime achievement award.

Delighted that Charlie Kaufman won for best original screenplay, even if he did look uncomfertable up there. Eternal Sunshine was by far the best script last year.

Anyhoo, onto other things.

The last piece of voice casting for The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy film has been announced. Emma Thompson will be the voice of Deap Thought. Which is cool. Roll on April 29th. All I have to do is decide which towel I’m bringing with me. (Hands up who thinks I’m joking about the towel thing.)

Actually, the next month or so is quite exciting for me. On March 26th, the brand new series of Dr Who starts in Britain. (In Canada, I believe, CBC will be showing it from April 5th. Dunno about anywhere else.) And then about a month later, as I’ve said, Hitchhikers on the big screen. Yay!

Tarantino claims he lost interest in directing a Bond film when Pierce Brosnan was sacked. Good. It’s no secret that I’m not a Tarantino fan, and I feel he would have ruined it.

Speaking of the Great White Hype, he has announced that Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Mess will be released as soon as the Weinsteins are free of Disney. I knew this would happen.

Interesting dept: over the weekend, Aint It Cool News leaked the information that Mathew Vaughn (producer of Lock Stock… and Snatch and director of Layer Cake) is set to be named director of X-Men 3. The official announcement was set to be made on Tuesday, but as yet, silence from Fox.

In other X-Men news, it has been suggested that The Beast, Gambit and Angel will be joining the team for X3. I must admit that I got a chuckle when someone suggested Robin Williams for Beast, cos he’s so hairy. (Although as Kat, the X-pert (sorry couldn’t resist) of the two of us has said, all they really need to do is have Beast before his secondary mutation. Then they wouldn’t need to make him furry.) Fanboy bitching seems to center on the description of Beast as having a similar role to Morphius in the Matrix (which jibes with the X comics I’ve read) and Angel being female, not male (I’ll ask Kats opinion before deciding for myself).

Meanwhile Joss Whedon has been announced as the writer/director for the Joel Silver produced Wonder Woman film. This, in turn, has lead to just about every Buffy/Angel/Firefly female being linked to the title role. Whedon and Silver, however, seem to be leaning towards an unknown. It does kinda surprise me that Whedon would want to do this. It seems as though this is territory he covered with Buffy.

Anyways, that’s it. (I have work. Yay!)

Will
