I met Scott on Thursday. He recognized me from my Youtube videos, dropped his breakfast and chased down the street after me. The next day we had a quick breakfast together. I had a 抓餅, he had a scrambled egg. He said that he was going to visit old friends the next day and invited me to tag along. I thought about it for a minute and then agreed. I know that you regret things that you didn’t do more than things you did. At least I do.

It is so fun to meet everyday Taiwanese. They will invite you into their homes, take you out for lunch, coffee or dinner and not expect much in return. They are curious about why a 62 year old white guy likes living in Taiwan and the essentially just want to show you that they are happy and successful too. There is a bit of humble bragging, but why not? If you were dirt poor as a child and now drive a Mercedes Benz, you are allowed to brag a bit.

So that was yesterday, three meetings scattered over seven hours, a few train rides and two cities. Today I am taking it easy. I’m going to clean the apartment, do some laundry, go shopping for coffee and shoes and catch up with my penpals. I’ve been away from Canada for a week and I’ve done more in a week than I do in a month in Canada. All good.
