The drive across the country was beautiful, quiet and uneventful. I talked to a guy in Northern Ontario that said everyone went home after Thanksgiving. The roads were open and free of RVs and other traffic. It was too late for the summer holiday crowd and too early for the hunters and holiday truckers. The prairie was golden with big rolls of hay for days and days. I joked to the missus on a regular basis that “this would be a really bad place to lose a needle.” Eventually she told me to shut up.
And settling into a valley by a lake surrounded by mountains is as calming and peaceful as it sounds. We took possession of our new condo, moved in with the beds, tables and chairs that were in the back of the pickup truck and then went out and bought a set of patio furniture. It’s in our living room. This isn’t the first time I’ve had patio furniture in my living room :)
Next, it is off to Taiwan. That will be at the end of the month. Until then, I want to get back into my old habits of writing and painting. I’m also learning to cook. Retirement is the best job I ever had.
