I’ve been sitting around here since May. I am so ready to go. And go I will. Eight days, 8 more days till I start the road trip west to BC. And then after about a month there, setting up the new house, visiting sisters and a daughter and mom and dogs, off to Taiwan.

So, when I got back in May from six months in Taiwan, I needed to chill. I needed to sit on the front porch and read more than a book a week. I needed to hang out in the courtyard and by the swimming pool. I got into new habits of doing morning walks, listening to the news and Chinese learning podcasts, sitting in the town square or in a shady spot in the park.

I barbecued a lot and biked a bit. I went to bed early and got up with the sun. The cat liked that. I pretty much gave up drinking, the hard stuff anyway - no gin this summer and only one bottle of vodka that I can remember. I don’t need to drink anymore. I’m retired. I don’t need to cope.

We were supposed to be in BC in June originally. (You cannot trust a builder to finish on time.) But things are what they are and nothing really matters anyway. So October is as good as June. The weather has turned cold and rainy. Eight more days.
