5 pillars of a happy day in Book Two

It is weird that I have been retired for more than a year (maybe longer) and still I am not sure what retirement is all about. As such, I have recently been watching ‘retirement’ videos again. I find the advice calming, soothing.

I learned yesterday that I have pretty good structure to my day and that the best days have some sort of structure to them. Makes sense. I would not want to be completely rudderless. We need routine if only to cut down on the choices we have to make everyday. And the advice I got yesterday included building the framework upon five pillars, which are: physical, creative, intellectual, social and meditative.

I really have to work on the last two.

For the time being, I’m going to consider my online interactions to be social. It is not just here but also on messaging apps, instagram and YouTube that I am online social. I don’t like clubs. I don’t want to volunteer anywhere so the best non-online social I can think of is hanging around public spaces. I can also spend a bit more time with the friends I have. I sometimes feel bad for not making an effort.

And as for meditative. This is pretty easy. Spend more time in nature without listening to music of podcasts. To sit quietly in the park or even on the front porch will suffice.
