I read in Book Two

I was reading in the NYT the other day that the rate of reading is down 40% in 20 years. If you break that down further, reading among males is down more than for females. It is a sad state of affairs when people are scrolling TikTok, playing video games and streaming bad TV and movies instead of reading. IMO.

There was a time about 20 years ago when I stopped reading. I was always a casual reader. But I stopped for about 10 years. It was at that time crunch in my life where my kids and job and other things in life just took over my time. The internet had a lot to do with it too. I was busy on line with my websites and social media. I was plugged into the matrix and it was plugged into me.

But I missed reading and came back to it. And now that I have retired and the kids don’t need my time I’ve been reading like mad all summer. I came back from Taiwan at the end of April and now it is the end of August - 4 months and I have read near 20 books.

To be honest, my reading is not very heavy. Ian Rankin, John Sandford, Michael Connolly, Lee Child. These are my go to. These are the guys that I read everything by. This summer I also read The Godfather and Jaws and I enjoyed them both immensely.

Instead of reading the news, I read. Essentially they are both forms of passive entertainment. Drama, mystery, comedy, fantasy.
Dystopian, horror, crime, thriller.
