The neighbours Adam and Marg from up the street returned yesterday afternoon. I was on the front porch having a beer with my neighbour from across the street - Big Buddy*. I hadn’t spoken with Big Buddy all summer. I hadn’t spoken with Big Buddy since the weather turned hot and I started hanging out back near the pool instead of on the front porch.
(The thing about me is that if hanging around was an Olympic sport, I’d get the gold medal.)
So, we were there to witness the return of Adam and Marg and their 18-foot Airstream trailer. They pulled that thing out to Tofino and back this summer. I can’t exactly remember when they left, but I didn’t expect them back until early September. It was about three months ago. Enough camping and all that goes with it. I bet it is nice to be home, sleeping in their own bed again.
And Big Buddy was telling me about his and Annie’s health problems (his knee, her gallbladder.) Big Buddy retired fifteen years ago, at about 55 but still works clearing snow at the airport in the winter and cutting grass at the golf course in the summer. Annie, I don’t know what she does, if anything.
The point is that they’ve been sitting around the last 15 years whereas Adam and Marg are newly retired and are not sitting around. I’m retired but the missus isn’t so I’m sitting around too. Now that the summer pool weather is mostly over, I don’t want to be sitting around.
*Little Buddy sold his house and all the junk in it a few years ago to a company that specializes in that sort of thing. He moved up to Kincardine to sit around and drink beer.
