Scotty invited me to go looking at puppies with him and Karen. I declined. There is no way I’m getting a dog, I said. Looking at puppies is pretty much the same as buying a puppy. And they did, on their second day out, get a puppy. I knew it. They sent me pictures of them with their new puppy sitting in their car. That could have been me, I thought.
It wouldn’t be the end of the world. I have the perfect lifestyle for getting a dog. Newly retired and at loose ends. Even when we got Cheech 20 years ago I took the time to walk her every morning and every night, rain or showers, snow, sleet, biting wind.
But I am counting down the days to a lifestyle change, a road trip, a winter in Taiwan and then if the missus is true to her word, she’ll retire at the end of April and life will change even more. More travel, that’s for sure.
