There is something that people say. I think it is true.
“You don’t want a cottage. You want a friend with a cottage.” Or
“You don’t want a boat. You want a friend with a boat.”
Yesterday I bumped into a couple of neighbours who live over the crest of the hill. It is a small crest. Just enough to gain a little excitement when I used to come down it on my longboard. Too much information. Note to self. Go out on longboard. Summer is ticking away.
It was about 6:30pm and I was on my way back from the public library. I have been reading through Ian Rankin’s Inspector Rebus novels (in chronological order) since May. I finished my 10th and had my 11th in hand.
I take my earbuds out.
“Where are you two headed?”
“Over to Norman Street. We are taking care of a friend’s rabbit.”
Turns out rabbits can be housetrained and seem to be pretty good pets.
His name is Arthur Abbot. So…
“You don’t want a rabbit. You want a friend with a rabbit.”
