Canadian restart in Book Two

I restarted my Mandarin studies yesterday. The target is 100 intermediate sentences a day. I know a lot of characters but my listening ability needs a lot of work. So today, since I know that the first step of baking in a new habit is bolting it on, I will listen to the sentences already learned while I take my morning 10,000 steps. That’s restarted again too. I was lazy for almost 3 weeks, mostly by choice. I wanted to ease back into Canadian life slowly. Also with averaging 15,000 steps over 6 months in Taiwan, I thought I needed a bit of a break.

I started weight training too. My shoulder still hasn’t healed up perfectly from the frozen shoulder that I had for four months in Taiwan (seemed longer.) But with the dumbbells out in the courtyard, I will lift them when I see them - curls and military press (my favourite.)

Yep. Life is all about maintenance. I get an email from Joe. He’s boarding a ship in Japan for a 17-day sail across the ocean. Joe spent a lot of the winter in Taiwan too and I saw him once or twice a week. He’s good reinforcement for me. A little older. A little less healthy. But a walker and a guy without any bad physical habits. (He’s a bit of a conspiracy theorist but that’s only entertaining for me now.)
