Opposite world in Book Two

In Canada, I sleep so well. So deep. I tell myself that I am recuperating from my overactive lifestyle in Taiwan. Maybe there is some truth in that. I certainly have a much more comfortable lifestyle here. And I’m not just talking about the driving the big truck. The bed is more comfortable. The furniture too.
The neighbours invited us to see their Airstream. It’s nice but I can’t stop seeing the excessiveness of it. Too big. Too comfortable for camping. And such a footprint. I was thinking, “You’re going to pull this thing all the way to Vancouver Island? Pay for all that gas? All those campsites? The ferry rides?” What I asked was, “are you going to take your dog?” (Sometimes, polite Bob keeps his opinions to himself.)
Interestingly, what we did talk about is the news cycle. They brought it up, saying something like ‘it will be nice to be out of touch, away from the news.’ I agreed. And then I thought about my American friends. They are living through it. They can’t get away from it. And it is not only tariffs for them. It is civil liberties and international affairs and public institutions and stupid nonsense like renaming the Gulf of Mexico as meanwhile, ports become quiet, countries do a workaround the US and basically they become accustom to living in opposite world.
